About The Highlands

My wife and I run a small backpacker lodge in Miri. The Highlands is on the Miri water front right in the heart of town. We will provide you with a host of information on travel in the local area as well as some great travel guides!

We are the only place in Miri, catering solely for backpackers! We supply air conditioning, satellite TV, hot showers, clean bathroom facilities, 24hrs coffee and tea, library, internet, a large collection of DVD's, washing machine and dryer, clean sheets, and kitchenette for your full use. Guests will love our nicely decorated dorm rooms. We provide modern and affordable accommodation.

You won't regret staying with us if you're passing through Miri on the way to Mulu or Bario.

The lady running The Highlands has strict rules and a very severe manner. She has no hesitation in telling people off if they put a foot wrong. She is not particularly helpful to travellers questions. She loves her cats and we saw her pick up cat vomit in newspaper and then continue preparing our breakfast in the kitchen, without washing her hands in between.
