I had a comfortable 5 day stay at Telila just before Xmas 2009. The ground floor room is comfortable and tastefully furnished in typical Morrocan style. It is the only room in the house that is let because it is also where Michele the owner lives (upstairs). There is a small sitting/breakfast room and access to the roof terrace, although sometimes not when she is out, which is usual during the day, as she has another larger property nearby which she also runs (www.douarskoll.ma). I found it good value for such a central location 10 mins from the main square, but was also generally very quiet, despite the nearby Mouassine mosque. The breakfast is very basic: bread & butter/jam 1 tea bag, occasionally a triangle of cream cheese, but there was a kettle in the room, so I had no problem making tea for myself whenever I fancied it. The ensuite bathroom was OK, I had to make minor repairs to the shower head to get it to stay in place and the taps on the basin leaked badly, but otherwise the hot water was plentiful at any time of day. The only minor niggle I had is that Michele is a smoker and often the smoke would drift downstairs via the central atrium that is characteristic of Morrocan architecture. Waking up to cigarette smoke was not an ideal start to the day for me. Also, if your idea of the Riad experience is of home cooking, organised activities and more of an insight into local life, then you'd probably be better off at her other property. But Michele is super helpful and very nice and for the independent traveller who values their privacy (and doesn't mind the occasional whiff of tobacco) I can highly recommend Telila.
