If you want to stay near the center, and dont care in what bed you sleep, Maggy's (why not Maggies?) Guesthouse is your place to be. I have to admit, I was very late with reserving this place, and this might have made it more expensive (100 euros for a night), but i am still surprised how someone dares to ask that money for what she has to offer..
First off, the beds are not beds but four matrasses piled on top of eachother. This will certainly result in a nice hangover wakeup, unless you like to sleep all bend through.. The lamp on the ceiling has no cover, making the room either exceptionally bright or pitch black dark. But this is nothing yet; the nice lady offers free tea, however the teapot was filled with coffee from the previous stayers. To get into the shower you had to skip over a hole in the floor. If you look outside the window you see a nice wall one meter away from it, and the shower, which you have to hold in your hand, is more like a malfunctioning bladder..
Also make sure to carry 20 extra euros as deposit for the key, this is not a problem but it's not written down anywhere..
I am Dutch myself, and stayed in the Hem Budget Hotel only two weeks before this guesthouse. It cost me 22 euros for 2 persons for a night, and the room was a LOT better as Maggies little broken down house.. Please go for the 20 minutes of extra traveling and do not support people like this to rip off those who want to have a good time in Amsterdam..
The place is in a great location, just beside the central station. The only problem there is there´s no enough light in the rooms during the night (during the day is wonderful as they have huge windows) and the central heatings works in a strange way as sometimes is working sometimes it stops making the room freezing. That´s a problem in winter but if you go in summer or spring you won´t realize.
This is a Trusted Review. Why?
The room was awful, colors were depressing and the place needed some serious cleaning. At night mice(being dead serious)!!!!!!!!!!!! were scrapping and nibbling cookies what we had with us!!! Facilities for making tea but no teaspoons!!!!! The next day we were moved to another room which was a bit better but still we were shocked overall!!!
