This is a Trusted Review. Why?

The Hotel (which is really a Hostel) is very convenient in that it is close to the train station & red light district; the rooms are clean, although all the interiors are rather squalid and run down. While the en-suite bathroom was satisfactory, shared toilets were not cleaned to standards.

When we checked in, I asked whether it would be possible to have a QUIET room.
The lady behind the desk said "Yes".
We were given room 202, a double room with en-suite services which faces the front (ie, the main road, the Damrak). As soon as we put down our luggage I realised that the room was not quiet at all, due to the constant flow of traffic and very noisy trams which go by just in front of the Hotel.

I went back to the reception and asked (again) if it was possible to have a quite room.
Apparently, "no", because (the lady behid the desk said), if we moved "then others arriving tomorrow would have to be moved too, and then others, and so on and so forth, and it would never end".

I did not entirely grasped the logic in this line of reasoning, and pointed this out, but still proposed that we would move ONLY for that one night, and then move back to noisy-room 202 next day.
Again I got the "others-would-have-to-move-too-and-it-would-never-end" answer.

I was able to get some sleep only because I was wearing thick (wax) ear plugs.
The next day I went back to the desk and asked again to move.
A different lady, a different answer: this time there was back-facing room available, but without en-suite shower / WC.
I took it at once.

If you are looking for good night sleep, make sure you get a room to the BACK (or bring with you ear plugs , or get very drunk / stoned before going to bed).
