Latest Review for St. Christopher's at The Winston

I stayed in a private room for four nights and was robbed 3 times. The first day my money belt was stolen from my room. It held my credit card, debit card, about 80 euro, and my social security card. Three days later my social security card magically appeared in my room. On both day three and day four a gram of marijuana was stolen from my room - on the third day i even took a picture of what i left in the room; when i got back the pictures didn't match.

About St. Christopher's at The Winston

Internet Access Breakfast Included 24 hour reception

Right in the heart of Amsterdam, just a stone's throw from the Royal Palace, between Dam Square and the Red Light District and only a 5 minute walk to the central train station, lies 'St Christopher's at the Winston' with its unique art hotel and budget Amsterdam hostel rooms.

Most rooms and all the hallways have been designed by local and international artists, like the Green room, the Durex room, the Absolute Danny room and the Billy the Kid room. You're going to need some refuge from the army of unstoppable bikes so maybe you'll end up in the Eastpack room with it's giant backpack beanbag or pass out under the watchful eye of a life size robot in the Playnation room? All rooms are completely unique and all worth a look.

Smoking:

All dorms and private rooms are non-smoking.

There is a well ventilated smoking room inside the bar area which is accessible during bar trading hours.

Guests may also smoke outside in the garden until 10pm.

The hostel also has Amsterdam's one and only Belushi's Bar where you'll find comfy couches, good music, great food and drink promotions all year round. We have 2-4-1 drink promotions on Beck's, Jameson & cola, Absolut vodka & mixer and €1 Jägermeisters. We also cook up the best burgers around, toss some tasty salads, spice up some hot curries and roll out fresh daily specials.

The private outdoor garden overlooks the playground of the red light ladies and next door, you can get your groove back at the Winston Kingdom Nightclub. Each month the line up is steaming hot and you can see the best live music and DJs, seven nights a week.

The staff are backpacking, bilingual, friendly and integrated with everything cultural. They can hook you up with parties and venues to suit all tastes and they'll put a smile on your face as they do it.

Dam Square is a two minute walk away and a great place to get your bearings. From here you can head west to Anne Frank's house, south to the Van Gogh museum and east to Rembrandt's house. There are canal tours galore, coffee shops left, right and centre and exhibits that will make your head spin.

Sandemans New Europe will take you on a free walking tour of Amsterdam which leaves from our check-in desk at 10.45 a.m. every morning. The tour takes about 3 hours and the guides speak English and Spanish.

The Dutch capital is a city like no other. Where else can you find guided tours of a red light district, Rembrandt's house, the Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank's house, Tulips, "coffee shops" and cheap beer? Old blends into new, radical squatter art installations hang off 17th century eaves, BMW's give way to bicycles and triple strength, monk brewed beer is served up in minimalist cafes. And St. Christopher's at the Winston is your first culture stop in this over the top Dutch city.

I finally spoke to someone at hotel reception and my room was not broken into (by staff i'm sure) on the fourth day. Do yourself a favor and pay a bit more for a nicer place...you're going to pay for it anyway. Staff are a bunch of thieves.

How do I get an art room?
It is sometimes possible to reserve a specific room in advance, but the art rooms change regularly and many of them will be changing this year. The fun is not knowing what the art in your room looks like until you open the door...

Directions

St Christopher's @ The Winston is on Warmoesstraat 129, between the Dam square, the Red Light District and the central train station (can you beat that???)

From Dam Square:
Warmoesstraat starts on the north-east corner of the square. We are at number 129.

From Central Train Station:
From the big square outside the station, head towards the Victoria Hotel and follow the Damrak avenue, for about 200 meters. Turn left into Oudebrugsteeg (at the end of the cruise boats harbour). The second street you come to is the Warmoesstraat (coffeshop Baba on the corner.) . Turn right into Warmoesstraat, and we are about 150 meters away, at number 129.
This is a 5 to 10 minutes walk, depending on the weight of your backpack, but without any coffee shop or bar pitstops!

From Schipol Airport:
Take a train shuttle to Amsterdam central station ('Centraal Station'). Trains leave every 10 minutes between 6am and 1am, and cost less than 4 euros one-way. The journey takes approximately 20 minutes. Follow then the above instructions from the station.

Parking Facilities:
There is a Public Parking on Damrak, 50 metres from the Winston. Cost is around € 4 per hour. Much cheaper is to leave your car outside the city centre. Check with the reception for how to drive there.
