Me and my friend stayed at Travel Hotel for 3 nights, and it gave us a quite scary first impression of Amsterdam. The staff was cold and a bit unfriendly, and we were a bit afraid of asking them questions as they seemed disturbed when we did so. Our dorm was full of men who totally ignored that smoking in the rooms were prohibited. We tried to change rooms but that seemed impossible even though the hotel was not full.

The location of the hotel was very nice, and it was easy to walk everywhere. The bells of Oude kerk rung outside the window every 15 minutes but we soon learned to like them. And the rooms were simple and clean.
Travel Hotel was worth the money, but don't expect service!

From the airport you can either take a taxi (approx. 20 min.) or a train (approx. 15 min.) to Amsterdam Central Station ('Amsterdam CS').
From the Central Station of Amsterdam, it's a 5 min. walk to our hotel:
- take the main exit and go straight out in the direction of the Dam Square onto the Damrak
- follow this main street (Damrak) which you can recognize from the canal boats on your left and the Victoria hotel on your right-hand side.
- at the end of the canal (when you see the Grasshopper building on your left) turn left into de 'Oude Brugsteeg'
- next street (at the entrance of the Grasshopper) turn right into the 'Beursstraat' and we are on number 23, recognizable from the huge green and yellow 'Travel Hotel' sign on our building.
