Directions

Arthur's Pass Village is located in the middle of Arthur's Pass National Park, at the northern end of the Southern Alps. Buses drop-off directly beside the Mountain House, and the railway station is only 500 metres walk from us.

By road it is 154km from Christchurch on Highway 73. From Greymouth, go south on Highway 6 to Kumara Junction. Turn east on Highway 73 and ascend to Otira then over the mountains to Arthur's Pass township, a distance of 100km. Free off-street parking is available.

Please note that in June through October snowfalls can occur. Winter driving conditions may sometimes require the use of tyre chains for your vehicle.

The Tranz Alpine train (Ph. 0800 872 467) runs daily to Arthur's Pass township, from Christchurch and Greymouth. This trip from Christchurch is considered to be one of the 'great rail journeys of the world', as it passes through spectacular gorges and alpine scenery.

By bus, Atomic Shuttles (Ph. 0508 108 359) travel daily to Arthur's Pass from Christchurch and Greymouth or Hokitika.

Within the national park the Mountain House Shuttle can provide transport to most track heads, or local ski fields.
