Although located about 1km from the main city centre the JAILHOUSE was well serviced by public transport, with a bus stop on the street outside.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was to much trouble.
Facilities were clean and plenty of room to relax in either the TV lounge . foyer area. Cinema and Gym areas were also available.Rating of the stay would be 100%. Give it a go you would not be disapointed.
I would use it again myself. ++++++++

We offer over 30 private rooms available as singles, doubles, twin bunks and dorms as well as some larger rooms that can be used by families or groups. Families very welcome, cot available.
Make your own meals in our new fully-equipped commercially-styled guest kitchen, or there are many food outlets within walking distance. Wake up to a cup of our freshly made organic, fair-trade espresso coffee from our coffee bar. Bicycle hire, WI-FI available, FREE DVD HIRE AND CINEMA ROOM, and TV and DVD in doubles, FREE POOL TABLE, FREE TOWELS and linen with fully made-up beds.
We are located near to Hagley Park, Tranzalpine train (free shuttle TO the station available) and the Westpac Centre where many concerts and functions are held. You could walk, or it is a short bus ride to the centre of town. Free vehicle parking is available too.

The BEST budget place to stay in Christchurch! I'd recommend it to anyone! Clean, friendly staff, comfortable, safe. Can get a little bit chilly in the cells at night though ;-)

This is a great fun place to stay.20 minutes easy walk to Christchuch or 5 minutes on a bus.
The staff are real helpful and the "Jailhouse" is a very quirky place to stay.

Directions
From Airport: We recommend you take Super Shuttle directly to door - they operate 24/7 from Christchurch Airport, freephones available at arrivals halls, costs NZ$17 for 1 person and $4 each extra person. Or bus to city bus exchange and catch bus #7 to Lincoln Rd, outside our building. Taxis operate for all arrivals, approx NZ$40.
Bus: Take #7 or #77 from central city Colombo St, by Cathedral Square (opposite Ballantynes Dept Store and by STA Travel), 8 minute ride to Lincoln Rd, get off at yellow 'Tony's Tyre Service' building and we are there.
Train: Walking (we are 1500 metres from Railway Station), turn left into Whiteleigh Ave and turn left at lights into Lincoln Rd. We are 500m on right hand side behind yellow 'Tony's Tyre Service' building.
Driving: 500m off Moorhouse Ave at Hagley Park end, or from Southern Arterial Motorway follow Addington signs.
Walking from central city - from Botanical Gardens/Art centre/Museum part of town, past Christchurch hospital, down Hagley Ave alongside Hagley Park to Lincoln Rd, find us on left hand side behind yellow 'Tony's Tyre Service' building
