We had a twin room on the top floor. (I don't think my friend will pack so much in her suitcase from now on, after all the stairs we had to climb in various backpackers!!) The room was clean and cosy and I loved that we had bed side table lights aswell for reading. And we had heaps of power points in our room to charge up all our stuff. We used the bathrooms on the lower floor because there was more showers. They were clean and had a massive mirror for all the girls to share.

Dunedin's Top Rated Hostel - Stafford Gables is an historic property, over 100 years old. It's character and charm makes it feel like a home away from home.
It is a wonderful place to come home to after a day exploring Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula. Relax by the fire, watch a DVD, or read in the sunroom. A roof-top garden offers views from the city to the sea - perfect for stargazing and sunrises.
Dunedin is Edinburgh's alter-ego. The city and its university are interwoven with cafes, pubs and unique architecture. Visit New Zealand's only castle, travel on the Taieri Gorge railway, tour the chocolate factory or Speight's Brewery.
Wildlife around the harbour includes albatross, seals, sea-lions and yellow-eyed penguins. Taiaroa head is the only place in the world where albatross nest on the mainland.

We used the bathrooms on the lower floor because there was more showers. They were clean and had a massive mirror for all the girls to share. There was a balcony on the top floor which looks out over dunedin. It was a great view and if it had not been raining, i would have sat out there for a bit. We didnt use the kitchen facilities but they looked decent. There is about 6 car parks out the front, which we luckily managed to get one. (Im not sure if you can leave your car parked out on the street all day??) By looking at the map, I thought that the hostel was going to be alot closer to the octagon than we actually were, but it was still only a 5-10 mins stroll to the centre of town - Not fun in the rain though. It was a reasonable price and the front desk attendant was helpful. Just dont loose the front door code or it costs $30 (i think) to get them to let you in after 8pm!! And they had a little smoking table out the front which was a great place to meet and have a chat to other backpackers.
Overall, i was satisfied with our stay. Thanks
