Overlooking the ever-changing never-boring always-gorgeous startlingly blue waters of Lake Tekapo, this hostel has stolen my heart. I have spent days just sitting behind the huge windows of its lounge, clutching a cup of tea and marveling at the view. It's the perfect place to relax and come back to yourself after a mad rush of travelling from place to place.

The rooms and kitchen are very decent (the rooms have heaters, which are welcome during the coldest winter nights), and the other facilities which used to be merely adequate back in 2004/2005 (such as the showers) have been improved to being quite decent...

The dining room saw the addition of a TV back in 2005, which definitely removed some of the charm of the place (it used to be completely TV-free) - but still, the thing is usually turned off, and at least it's not placed in the lounge, so I shan't complain too much.

Also, did I mention the view yet? :)

This hostel has the best location and view from anywhere else I found in Lake Tekapo, let alone any where else I have ever been before! And the view from inside the lounge is picturesque! It was nice to just sit down in one of the lounges by the fire and read a book and look out the window.
Unfortunately were given a double room instead of the twin room that we had booked online, so i would call and confirm your room configuration with the hostel if you book online! Oh and our room was right outside the mens bathrooms - which smelt horrible! (and that was from outside the bathroom and in our room!) They also have a tv in the kitchen area (and nearly all the rooms are accessed off the kitchen area) and these guys we out there watching the tv at full volume and laughing so loud till late in the morning when everyone else in the hostel was trying to sleep. That was not fun, especially when we had to get up early to drive 8 hours to our next stop! There was internet access available but by the time we went to buy the internet time from reception, they had left for the day, so i would recommend getting it on arrival. The receptionist was very helpful and refunded the difference of price when i realised they had given us a double instead of the twin beds.
