We had mixed feelings but mostly good, though probably a weekend that was made better by the people in it. We got a good deal from travellers point, cheapr than booking directly and ours included breakfast which would otherwise cost $6 for toast and cereal.

We had mixed feelings but mostly good, though probably a weekend that was made better by the people in it. We got a good deal from travellers point, cheapr than booking directly and ours included breakfast which would otherwise cost $6 for toast and cereal. Busy hostel in noisy surroundings, I thought we had an ensuite room and belived parking to be available and bedside lamps. None of this was the case. Parking had to be booked in advance and was $10 per day. a little Irish guy on reception was rude and should not be in hospitality. Location is walking distance to nightlife, th Base bar was great, especially as we could drink in it despite other places beig closed with Easter rules. Welkington is a class city, the Base is ok for a couple of nights and served its purpose. Bar staff are really sound.

The hostel is very well located in the center of Wellington, that is the best I can say of this place. I stayed four nights at the 7th floor, but showers were unavailable, I had to go to the 6th floor to take a shower, and there were 7 dorms at my floor, plus the dorms at the 6th floor!
At breakfast they served bread well past its expiry date, they claimed it was kept in a freezer.
They try to charge six dollars for breakfast even though they claim breakfast is included, I did not payed but I had to argue with the reception to get it free all the four mornings.
And beware of the 2% surcharge if paying by credit card.

Sweet as! I stayed here for about 2 and a half months doing the work for accommodation. The bar in the basement is awesome, free pool almost all the time, wednesdays are $4 nights...crazy. most of the staff is pretty cool. there are a couple weirdos as long termers but over most of the people that seem to pass through are pretty cool. lots of south americans here...good people. good times. I think it's expensive though. but the location is crazy good. it's right around the corner from the establishment, maya, minibar, lots, vespa, all the great bars in town.
that being said wellington is tiny so all of the hostels are no more than a 5 minute walk from most of these bars, it's just that base is about a minute away.
it's also right down the street from the supermarket.
