We had a really enjoyable week at the Stara Polana in September 2009, staying in the double room with ensuite bathroom. For the equivalent of 20 GBP a night the room exceeded our expectations with coffee making facilities available in the kitchen nearby.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and speak excellent English and the location of the hostel is just 10 minutes walk from the centre of town and about the same to the railway and bus stations.

Stara Polana Hostel is located in the very center of Zakopane, on Nowotarska 59 Street. It is quite a large wooden Villa built in 1905 in what is known as Zakopane architectural style. Take a look through its windows at beautiful Giewont mountains. Walk outside and enjoy its big garden with a grilling place. Our convenient location is surely yet another of our trump cards.
Only a ten-minute walk from here to Krupówki, five minutes to get to the railway and bus. Our Hostel is open 24/7, breakfast included in price, spacious and well-equipped kitchen with dining room awaiting.
Internet access is free of charge, a parking lot and laundry are just examples of what we have on offer. Our friendly staff will do their best to make sure our hostel is a perfect choice of yours. In addition, we offer competitive prices.
In planning Your route don't hesitate to ask the receptionists for some good advice. They will give You a free map and will not let You to get lost. If You want to see some attractions outside Zakopane it doesn't mean wasting hours on trying to arrange it just come to the reception desk and You will see how easy it can be.
We have a crew of young, dedicated, English speaking people. And we are eager to help you discover our town.
We don't accept credit cards but it's not a problem to pay when You get polish money out.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and speak excellent English and the location of the hostel is just 10 minutes walk from the centre of town and about the same to the railway and bus stations.
We were surprised to get breakfast included in the very reasonable price and this consists of cereal, bread, jam, milk, cheese and a choice of spreads being made available from 7am.
Thank you for such an enjoyable time, we will stay again and recommend Stara Polana to our friends.

everything was ok, the place was tidy and clean.

Good location within an short walk to the town of Zakopane. However there is an air of cost cutting about the place, with breakfast being noticeably sparse, consisting of very limited amounts of cornflakes and some very small slices of poor quality bread for toasting.
Other than that it was an enjoyable stay, with any information we needed fairly easy to coax from the staff. However we feel there could be more ffort on the staff's part to pass on the relevant information on arrival.
The room we got was fairly cramped but otherwise well appointed. Heat was plentiful, as were bathrooms around the floor we were on.
Good hostel overall with one or two bad points.

Directions
To get to the hostel from the railway and bus station (which are next to each other), it takes no more than a 5 minute walk.
- When you go out from the railway or bus station turn into Kociuszki Street. Walk until you reach crossroads and then turn right into Sienkiewicza Street.
- When you come to the next crossroads, turn right into Nowotarska Street. After 300 meters on your left you will see quite a large wooden villa with a sign Hostel Stara Polana - that's where we are waiting for you.
