Budget Accommodation Europe Portugal Coimbra Budget Hotels Comfort Inn Almedina
For a hotel, the Comfort Inn offers little in the way of facilities. We have stayed in hostels previously with better facilities for a smaller price. The main problem we encountered was that we stayed at the hotel over Christmas, when shops, restaurants etc were closed.
The Comfort Inn Almedina is a modern three star Hotel located in the “Baixa” (City center) of Coimbra, a place where both history and busy business life meet.

For a hotel, the Comfort Inn offers little in the way of facilities. We have stayed in hostels previously with better facilities for a smaller price. The main problem we encountered was that we stayed at the hotel over Christmas, when shops, restaurants etc were closed. The website advertised "room service" and a "bar", which we were relying on for food over Christmas. When we arrived, we found that there was no room service at all, and that the bar was in fact 2 vending machines and a coin-operated coffee machine. There was no actual food in the vending machines, just chocolates and drinks, and were only managed to eat on Christmas day by virtue of getting to Coimbra early enough to make it to the supermarket before it closed. As there is also no kitchen available we were limited to microwave options. For the price, the hotel offered far less than we expected and the misleading information on the website could have seen us in a difficult situation regarding food over Christmas.
The double room we booked turned out to be a twin bed room.
On the plus side, the bathroom was clean with high water pressure (at times a rarity in hostels).. also, the breakfast which was included in the price was a buffet offering a good selection of fruits, pastries and breads (we don't recommend the hot food).
The staff were friendly, but all things considered, we would not recommend the Comfort Inn to other backpackers looking for value for money.
