everything here was horrible!!! i thought i was a good price for the rossio area - but even for the location it was a total ripoff.
i first made a lengthy reservation by internet with a prepaid deposit, and when i sent an email to shorten the stay i had planned, they claimed to not have received it! how convenient for them... get the first email, but not the second? yeah right.

About Pensão New Aljubarrota
Our guesthouse has 10 rooms (single, double, triple, shared rooms and mixed dorm rooms) and it is located in Downtown. Our facilities are cosy, with family environment. All rooms have a sink, bidet and a mirror, and 5 of the 10 rooms we have available, have a private shower .
Since it is an old building, it has no lift, having to reach the 4th floor through exercisable 75 steps.
The bathrooms are colective, but they are cleaned everyday.
This building offers you a glimpse of portuguese history from the 18th century, by its architecture, antiques tyles, furniture and view of the daily portuguese life from our typical balconies. You can see the inside construction of these antique buildings from one of the stair walls, that's uncovered in our floor, which lively show you how Marques do Pombal rebuilt every building in Downtown against earthquakes, after the one of 1755.
Th guesthouse also offers you utensils to eat and heat up food, like kettle, microwave, refrigerator, spoons, knifes and forks, glasses and cups, bowls and plates... We also offer TEA and COFFEE FREE OF CHARGE!
Unfortunately, our facilities DO NOT ALLOW COOKING.
Near the guesthouse, you can find every type of transportations: taxi, metro, tram, bus...
You can also find close by supermarkets, internet cafes, pharmacies, turism office, post office, typical pastry shops, gift shops, fashion stores, monuments, taverns, bars, all types of restaurants, etc.
We are in the following guide books: Lonely Planet, Petit Futé, Rough Guide and Ulisses.
Check in: after 2 pm.
Check out: before 11 am.
If you arrive earlier, you can leave your luggage with us (after 10am).

i first made a lengthy reservation by internet with a prepaid deposit, and when i sent an email to shorten the stay i had planned, they claimed to not have received it! how convenient for them... get the first email, but not the second? yeah right.
when i arrived at the place, it was NOTHING like what was described online - old, dirty, thin cotton blankets and mismatched, worn-out sheets like something from a refugee camp. cigarette ashes on the floor of the room. and the clerk was RUDE!! then when i told him i woudn't stay in such a decrepid excuse for a lodging house, he charged my card anyway!
he also lied and told me "there was no way" i would find other affordable accommodation anywhere nearby - what a lie! less than one block away, i found the fantastic pension del norte, with rooms for 35 euros (the exact same price as new aljubarrota) that were clean, nice, and with elevator access! and friendly staff!!
i wouldn't recommend the new aljubarrota to my worst enemy. be warned!!

The cancelation policy of the present Guesthouse:
72 hours in advance, it won't be charged any fee,
48 hours in advance, it will be charged 50% of the amount regarding the first night,
24 hours in advance or in case of no-show, it will be charged the total amount regarding the first night,
At the moment of check-in, it will be charged the full amount regarding your reservation.
Payment Information:
The hotel takes payment for the 1st night to guarantee the reservation and the rest of payment is made at check-in.
Other situations:
All children up to 4 years old stay free of charge when using existing bedding.
All children from 4 to 10 years are charged 50 % of the room stay per night and person for extra beds.
All older children or adults are charged EUR 20 per night and person for extra beds.
Maximum capacity of extra beds in a room is 1.

Directions
Airport:
- If you are coming from the airport, you can take a taxi. It is more or less 10.
The other choice is to come by Bus. You can take the Bus 91(Aero bus) or 44, or 45.Taking the bus 44 or 45, is a bit cheaper, but it takes longer. Get out at Rossio bus station and walk towards the river for 3 blocks until you find Rua da Assunção. Our guest house is above a big black shoe store called Lisbonense.
Santa Apolonia Train Station:
- If you are coming from Santa Apolonia train station, you can catch the bus number 9 or 46 or 90, and get out at Praça do comercio bus station. Walk towards Rossio square for 4 blocks until you find Rua da Assunção. Our guest house is above a big black shoe store called Lisbonense.
You can also come by taxi, but it will be much more expensive than if you come by bus or subway.We only advise coming by taxi if you have very heavy bags and or suitcases.There is a taxi terminal, right in front of the train station.
Jardim Zoologico Bus Station (ZOO)
- You can take the subway (Blue line). The nearest station is Jardim Zoologico. Get out in Baixa-Chiado, where the Guest house is located. Walk one block towards Rossio square and turn right. You are in Rua da Assunção. Our guest house is above Lisbonense (Shoe store) at the end of the street. You can also take the taxi, just ask the taxi driver to go to the crossing of Rua da Assunção with Rua dos correiros. Our guest house is just above that crossing road.
