RSSI stayed at the Rolling Stone Hostel in 2007 and it was an absolute pleasure - after a particularly horrible experience in Bucharest and arriving at Brasov in the pouring rain we were less than hopeful!
However, once we got past the disused swimming pool at the entrance and stepped inside we were greeted by a really friendly member of staff - we had booked in advance for a private room and were offered the choice of 2. we picked one downstairs which was absolutely beautiful. The bathroom was amazing, it had a corner bath and a power shower and was very spacious - a very welcome change.
The only complaints about the room were that it was a bit dark and damp, but nothing that couldn't be overcome. The hostel staff were so helpful, they gave us their number and told us about a few tours. we booked to go 'bear watching' with them which was a fantastic experience, being driven in a taxi to a rubbish tip where we saw a mummy bear and 3 baby cubs roaming around, it was honestly very surreal but at the same time amazing!
We also went on the Dracula castle tour, which was also very good and reasonably priced! driving through the clouds of transylvania was unforgettable.
The staff were able to advise on many things such as buses, museums, restaurants and even able to direct us when we got off the bus at the wrong stop for horse riding and rang them in a mass panic!
The internet is available in the main living room which is very sociable - and the bar downstairs is amazing, small but so much fun and atmosphere - the bar man is a legend! try a pint of home brewed 'dracula beer' or home produced wine! - both of them lethal!
All in all a fantastic experience and I would recommend to anyone!
