This is a Trusted Review. Why?

The booking details through you were completely messed up. We had booked for 8 people fo rtwo nights. When I contacted ttem we only had a booking for 4 people for 1 night. There is no kitchen. There was a table for four but because it was up against the wall could only sit three. The chairs were so ricketty people chose not too use them. The kitchen was extemely unhygenic. The showers were too small, 65 X 72 cm. Your body was constantly in contact with the shower curtain as had been everybody before you. Unhygenic. The drains backed up leaving you standing in a few inches of water. In one word. Unhygenic!!! The matresses were comfortable though the rooms were too crowded and there was no space for luggage. The location was good. No body in our group would never stay there again. Despite being advertised there is also no wi-fi. If I was your company I would remove them from your books.

Be assured it was nothing like my home

Travellerspoint Response

We are sorry to hear about your negative experience at Bulgakov Hostel. We are currently getting in touch with the hostel to find out why they didn't have your booking correct, and we will also confirm whether they do offer wi-fi.

The only thing going for this hostel is its location, which is right in the middle of touristy Arbat St and about 20 minutes walk from the Kremlin. On the downside, it is overpriced for what we got. We stayed in a twin room but the door did not lock from the inside, allowing other guests to open the door when they mistaked our room for the bathroom, which was the next door down. There is no kitchen although a fridge is available as well as a jug, on request. Toilet paper was stocked in the afternoon and when it ran out by 10 p.m., it wasn't restocked until the next afternoon. The staff gudgingly spoke English and provided the shortest, although not the most helpful, answers to our questions. They charge 700 rubles for visa registration. I would recommend this hostel for its location only and warn you that it is overpriced for what you get.

The hostel is very central. Ten minites walk and you are onthe red scuare. That is very nice about it. it is in an old building and there is a very tiny shower, wich leaks water on the floor. the building is clean, the beds old and the mettres is very rusian, made of iron. but it works. the place is always noisy. but ist,s fun to meet al sorts of people.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Although the rooms were rather small, I really enjoyed my stay. The location of the hostel was very good, only a short walk away from the nearest metro station. The service was excellent and flexible, even though we had to change the date of our departure. Nice experience!

take care with the "new rules", that are not explained in the web page nor in any oficial paper of the hostel.

To find it is quite difficult, the entrance is in the back street of Arbet, first time had to call by phone to get an explanation.
