Situated at the end of Princes Street there is no doubt this is a prime location. The place is vast! I only stayed one night and it was literally just somewhere to put my head down for the night.
The dorms were comfortable, a little noisy from the traffic outside but nothing major. Pillows and duvets supplied. Bathroom was clean and there was loo roll!
There is a huge bar area with TV pool tables and sofas to slouch on, a vending machine for midnight choc attacks.... more

There were few people there at the times I was so hard to comment on the atmosphere. The decor is 'interesting'! Lots of murals and purple paint.
Security was good with card entry to the dorms, but remember to take your own padlock if you want to use the lockers. Staff looked after my bag for the day as I arrived real early which was great.

I found Caledonian Backpackers to be a nice, warm and cosy place. The rooms and facilities are pretty much what you'd expect -basic, but more than enough to get you through. The staff are nice, it's a short walk to the Royal Mile, so overall it rates well. My only real criticism would be that it's a bit on the pricey side.

Very good place, well situated, clean , and relation price/services allright
my first youth hostel experience in UK. Even though I almost got lost when looking for this hostel (completely my own fault), but I immediately fell in love with this hostel. Close to Princes street, the Castle, Grassmarkets, and if you want to go to Rosslyn Chapel, just cross the street to St. John's bus stop. Access is easy, kitchen is huge and comfortable, nice TV & internet room, PLUS: wifi access within your room... how convenient! Definitely would love to stay here again when I'm back to Edinburgh.
