Edinburgh Backpackers

The staff was very nice and the location is great. The price was high since it was the beginning of the fringe festival and everybody tripled their prices.

The one complaint we have is we that were given beds in an adjacent building and not in the main one.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

The staff was very nice and the location is great. The price was high since it was the beginning of the fringe festival and everybody tripled their prices.

The one complaint we have is we that were given beds in an adjacent building and not in the main one. In that building the conditions are much inferior to those in the main building - no real windows in the room, no public areas, no wi-fi, no entertainment room, no kitchen. All were promised during the booking and only available in the main building. We got these inferior rooms even though we booked the beds in advance. While booking the beds we were not informed of the option of being housed in the other building. We suspect that an error of one of the staff members caused our booked beds in the main building to be canceled and then the solution that was found was giving us the beds in the other building. Either way (not being informed in advanced or getting these beds due to an error of the staff member) this caused us to be less satisfied form this hostel. We believe that the price of beds in the adjacent building should be lower than those in the main building.

But other than that - the place is well located, valued and a good choice for a dormitory in Edinburgh.

The location cannot be better. Although it is pretty dirty and the bathroom was on another level, I cannot complain about the atmosphere. The people that choose this place are nice and easy to talk to. If you are looking for a good time, meet new nice people, going out, great location and you don't care too much about the cleanliness this is the right place.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Perfect location but a bit noisy...
There shuld be a light system so that people who comes to the room at night doesn't need to open the lights...
and there could also be some notes to ask people not to make noice in common areas near the rooms at night...

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

I chose this hostel on the basis of location, I was joining some freinds for a weekend of beers in Edinburgh and as my wife and daughter were staying at home I deceided to use a hostel (no need for private space).

The location is perfect for the station and the royal mile and still not too far from major bus routes and shopping (Princes St).

I stayed in the big 14 bed dorm and (maybe due to the beers) never had any trouble sleeping. Always could get a hot shower and space to sit and read or listen to music in the common room.

All in all if you know what to expect from a hostel and you know what's good in Edinburgh then you'll know this is a good place to stay!

Enjoy your time in Edinburgh wherever you choose to stay!

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Booked on a budget and wasn't sure what to expect, but this place was fantastic value! The beds were comfortable, the staff friendly and the view from the window, over a very Christmassy city, was great! On the downside, the heaters in the room didn't seem to work and hot water was temperamental; but, for the price we paid, it was EXCELLENT VALUE. Would definitely stay there again, and recommend the place to anyone who doesn't mind cutting back on a few luxuries.
