Merith House Hotel

I stayed there for 12 days, which was a bit long. The good thing is that it is in a good spot in Leith. The people running the place were just starting when I got there and they were extremely kind and patient. Very good people. It is a bit of a 'you pay for what you get' situation.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

I stayed there for 12 days, which was a bit long. The good thing is that it is in a good spot in Leith. The people running the place were just starting when I got there and they were extremely kind and patient. Very good people. It is a bit of a 'you pay for what you get' situation. The internet connection is atrocious. You basically have to stand on one foot on the roof to get a connection at all. The continental breakfast is actually frosted flakes and toast. The walls are extremely thin. The bed is awful and the pillows seem like the thinnest, hardest, things that could still be called pillows. And the cleaning lady...well lets just say she runs the show. There are no 'do not disturb signs' so if you feel like sleeping in then good luck. somewhere between 9:30 am and 12:30 am you will not only hear the loud rumblings of a woman at work, you will await the banging at your door. Then you will have an impromptu conversation through the door, usually explaining that you are tired and you don't want the service right now, where then she will either let you be or try and talk you into letting her in. Either way, she is definately the boss.
I believe that the nice couple, Ruth and Kevin, running things there are saving that place from an even worse reputation.

My single room was small but adequate, however there was not much space to hang clothes, only three prongs on the side of a narrow, vertical, cabinet. Otherwise, the room was quite comfortable, clean and warm.

The continental breakfasts were extremely good. Plenty of choice in cereals and fruit, also juice, yogourt, toasts and tea/coffee.
