Experience the township vibe with the only backpackers in the township, in Cape Town. This neat and stylish Backpackers will get you close and personal with local life on walks of the area. At night curl up on one of our Afro chic rooms and let the sounds of eKasie rock you to sleep.
eKasie Backpackers was launched on the eve of Freedom Day, April 26 2005. It was the first of its kind backpackers lodge in Khayelitsha, Cape Town - opening up a new tourism niche market in the township - and community-based tourism.
eKasie Backpackers is proudly owned by Noma and Luba, vibrant and passionate. Our guests experience the township vibe - get off the bus, meet and know the locals, learn our diverse cultures, how to cook our food (and eat it), about spaza shops, shebeens, our interesting history and can also take part in community building.
We are involved in community building and empowerment and encourage our guests to get involved – youth arts and drama, gumboots dancing, drumming, storytelling and street soccer are a few examples.
Welcome to eKasie Backpackers, the only backpackers in the township in Cape Town, and enjoy the township vibe.
EKasie Backpackers is mainly self-catering but also prepares and provides meals on request.
Visitors are able to help themselves to a basic breakfast, and thereafter join one of the many Khayelitsha day trips for tours, taking you from the local market right through to Khayelitsha’s own Look out hill, ending your township experience with traditional meal at EKasie’s dinning area.
EKasie also have an entertainment area with a bar and a bbq area. We also have facilities to host trainings or conferences up to the maximum of 12 people. In addition, there is a lock-up garage for at least two mini-vans or larger 16-seater vehicle.
EKasie Backpackers boasts five bedrooms named after biggest townships in South Africa namely: Khayelitsha, Soweto, Mdantsane, Kwa Mashu and Qwaqwa. Three of these rooms have en-suite bathrooms, of which one is equipped to care for visitors with mobility access needs, the other two rooms have separate bathroom.
Soweto and Kwa Mashu are double rooms catering for those visitors who prefer a more comfortable accommodation like a B & B type. There is a communal dining and a sitting room, aptly called the "Chat Room", where visitors can exchange their travelling experiences.
