About half a mile from the train station and close to all the restaurants and bars, Boulders beach is about a 20 min walk away. The train from Cape Town took just over an hour and only cost about £1.20, the track runs right next to the sea. Our room was clean and nicely furnished, as was the whole building, better than we expected. It had a kitchen and bar but no safe or cafe / restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful.

If you want to visit Cape point you can either hire a bike (but its a long ride) or hire a car (best bet). There is no public transport there apart from a taxi which will cost you. Simonstown has a couple of free museums to visit and has a slower pace than the hustle and bustle of Cape Town.

This place is great. We didn't really hang out there except when we were in our room, but really liked our room(double/ensuite) which had doors opening to a long, communal balcony. It's just a short walk to the Wharf where there are some small boutiques and a few good restaurants. The penguins are about a 35 minute walk away.

I loved it here, staying in a mixed dorm which opened out onto the communal balcony with great sea views. The communal bathroom had just been refitted and was superb. The dorm was basic with 6 (bunk) beds, clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well fitted out and there were two computers for internet access.
Not always someone on hand for advice and info, but when found, they were friendly and helpful.
Good location, just a short walk from the main town area with a handy pub which had great food.
