After seeing fairly high approval ratings of Saerim Hotel on this website and others, my boyfriend and I decided to book 7 nights at a time for 14 days total. The first 6 days were OK, the amenities are fine, although it isn't as clean or updated as reviewers describe. I was reasonably satisfied with their services and amenities until they accused us of not paying for 2 nights. I was absolutely certain I had paid, as I had allocated the amount to the hotel and went down every 2 days to pay for every 2 days. My boyfriend and I both were present when we paid. The manager said he had no record and we did not have a receipt since it was never given to us. He didn't want to reason with us even after talking to an interpreter. We feared that if we just walked out, he'd call the police and detain us from returning back to the States. It makes no sense for us to scam him for 2 nights if we planned to stay for 14 days and jip him on day 6!
In addition, he told us that the 10% deposit on all these sites, including Travellerspoint.com, was actually a commission taken by these websites. I told him this was not true, that they already charged the 2.00 service fee and that the deposit was paid to him. He denied this and forced us to pay 100% of the room, not the 90% declared on these hostel sites. I was definitely charged the 10% fee according to my credit card, so unless these traveller's/backpacking sites are scamming us, Saerim's management was lying and squeezing every last cent from us.
It has been a nightmare dealing with the manager. There are very few pros when other hotels charge less for better rooms.
