We had a really, really lovely stay here. The staff were super friendly - despite not speaking much English and us not speaking much Spanish - and were always incredibly helpful. The place was compact but really clean and the view (and smells) from the window let you know you were in the heart of San Sebastian. We stayed during the Jazz Festival and the weekend evenings were very noisy as a stage was nearby, which we liked. However, this is something to consider if you turn in early, as I think it would probably be pretty noisy at other times during the summer months due to its central location. Before we left for Spain I didn't realise how easy it would be to walk everywhere and, from the doorstep, there are dozens places to get toe-curlingly delicious pinchos. Knowing the hotel is nearby is also v handy if you have a couple of chacolis (almost-sparkling Basque white wine poured from a great height) - down two with someone cute and you'll see what I mean. I marked Pension Jeronimo down for value because the accommodation is fairly basic for the price, but the location, staff and newness of the rooms made it worth it. If we ever go back, which I would love to, then we will definitely try to stay here again.
