Ranjit's Ambalama

Ranjit's Ambalama is a home away from home. The facilities are simple but delightful. I loved the architecture of the little cottage that I stayed in. Ranjit and the lovely Shanti made me feel very welcome and nothing was a problem.

Ranjit's Ambalama is a home away from home. The facilities are simple but delightful. I loved the architecture of the little cottage that I stayed in. Ranjit and the lovely Shanti made me feel very welcome and nothing was a problem. If you require a meal, a lovely vegetarian spread will be prepared for you. It was close to all the places I needed to be around Colombo. Ranjit's Ambalama was great value. Thank you Ranjit.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Before I booked, I did read the bad reviews.
I thought, everyone deserves a second chance.
I was wrong. I wanted to moved out after all my interaction with the man Ranjit himself.

Fortunately it was just for a day + a day was added to my payment due to very early morning arrival, even after informing by email to cancel the airport pick-up and was left with no choice but to make it at Ranjit's Amblama as the car was send, much to my dislike and pay for an extra day and not to forget the traveling charges.
He will guide you with the city info. but best when monetary dealing is kept aside.

Some thumb rules:
Book yourself a Cab (not from Ranjit's Ambalama)
Make all things clear, your requirement of the room (AC/non-AC)
Explore eating out, even your drinking water et al.

Best to avoid. There are so many of such places one can fish for and enjoy the good vacation in Sri Lanka and cherish a good hospitality.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

A friend and I stayed in the room with two beds w/ toilet and no AC. The room itself was clean and we have no complaints. However, if you book through this website, do not forget to take a print-out of the booking receipt with you. While there were no problems, it seemed that both the owner and his employee were unaware of the exact nature of the room booked and the fact that part of the cost was paid already. Since we had the receipt, this didn't take more than a few minutes to clarify.

Like some of the hostels we stayed in in Sri Lanka, we had to pay for water (you get bottles since water from the tap isn't safe). Breakfast seemed surprisingly expensive (about Rs. 650 per person). If you're paying for the cheaper rooms, you'll have a better time if you eat outside at a small place. There are a few cheap restaurants 2-3 km around the place.

Everything else was rather good. The rooms were clean, you could have a hot-water shower, towels and mosquito nets were provided, and staff were friendly. Do not expect to ask them for advice on the city, though.

Watch out for the auto-rickshaw drivers who are parked near the place, though. They charge very high rates. To get anywhere, you'll need to either take one of those or use the bus. I'd recommend the bus.

Very disappointing - dirty and in the middle of nowhere. The proprietor was rude and unhelpful - would not recommend to anyone
