The renovated, modern Basel Youth hostel provides 234 beds in a variety of room types (double room to six-bed rooms. The Design - Youth Hostel is perfectly located within walking distance of most sights in Basel.
It is glorious to stay here in this quiet, green, sleepy oasis of Basel, not far from the river Rhine. The youth hostel is to be found in the venerable St Alban quarter, the original home of the Basler 'Daig', as the old established Basler families are called. Behind the building flows the St Alban Canal, which earlier linked the various factories in the quarter to the Rhine.
From the hostel it's only a 10 minutes walk to the effervescence of Basel's city life. The optimal starting point from which you can set out to discover Basel and its unique way of life: from the Old Town to the famous museums and the Carnival.

RSSThis newly built hostel was really disappointing. It didn't seem completely finished (no paint on the walls, bare breeze blocks). On arrival, we were informed of extra charges that we not made fully clear on booking (visitors tax and membership fee). There was not a secure place to leave baggage. The kitchen had run out of food despite giving them prior notice that we would be eating there. The showers were cold. Towels required a deposit of 10CHF each. Internet was expensive. The TV had not yet been installed so there wasn't a social/common area. The hostel is a long walk from the centre. On a positive note, the hostel was clean and the staff were nice but I won't be staying here again and would not recommend it.
