STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL.

Booked and confirmed 2 room online - hotel only had 1 room reserved when we arrived. After showing order confirmation for 2 rooms the manager still disputed. Took over an hour to resolve. The only option hotel had was to free up a staff room, which had bunk beds for 2 adults and stunk of sewerage!

The 2nd room we were given had "put me up" beds which were 5.5 foot in length. If only we weren't both over 6 foot tall!!

We had a shared bathroom which serviced at least 10 rooms, we had to wait over an hour to get a shower!

After complaining the manager wouldn't reduce rates and didn't even offer a free drink.

Service, managers attitude, rooms, breakfast and beer all lousy!!

Cheapest hotel in interlaken, now I know why!!

Dear Traveller,

I am sorry to have to report a negative experience of this guest house.

Let me allow you to make your own conclusion.

I booked a twin room with shared bathroom and shower facilities. I therefore was not expecting too much more than a room with 2 beds.

However, the 'room' was infact in the rear extension of the hotel which I am convinced was a staff quarters, next to some sort of store room and laundry. It smelled of cleaning equipment etc.

The ceiling was uncovered insualtion board with tissue paper jammed between the gaps. There was a mirror propped up on the basin with old kids stickers stuck to it.

The beds were laughable folding camp beds !!! Really. I am average 6 ft tall and were feet dangling.

Now, I am a climber and do not mind roughing it, sleeping where I lay etc, however, this was not the twin bedded room I reserved and the quality of the rest of the room totally fell below any reasonable standard for a proper guest house.

We complained and changed to a proprer twin room that was in all respects very good. We were charged extra.

The point is not that first room was cheap, it is that they should NOT be selling this 'staff' room to any one other than some desperate buddies wanting something that is dryer than sleeping on a park bench. It is not a normal TWIN room ie real beds.

PHONE, CHECK and CONFIRM that you are not in the staff room. If thats what you are after , i suggest not paying more than CHF 50 for you both.

Breakfast was fine and sufficent.

The building is cute chalet style and quite nice.

There is a nice view of the Jungfrau from the Breakfast room.

The other proper rooms actually appeared quite nice so just be sure what you are booking, thats all.

We left after first of 2 nights to find somewhere nicer.

Satisfcation depends on what room you get. Initially I was given a small room without bathroom and toilettes, which was not mentioned in my booking. I had to fight and then I had a decent room. The hotel is 15 to 20 mins walk from railway station, not very much impressive. The beds, linen is good, breakfast is good. If I am there next time I will choose another hotel for the factors that it is far, the rooms are not good, and most of the rooms have common bath and toilettes. If you are bachelor, you can still go for it, but if you are a family please do not. There are lifts so you have to carry your luggage, I had a tough time doing that. There are many hotels nearby railway station with all facilities.
Overall
For bachelors - fine
For family - if you do not have luggage and if you get a good room with shower and toilettes then it is OK. Otherwise a big NO

It had the old English charm,nice and cozy but people looking for more modern amenities wont find it that appealing.But it has a nice view and a good restaurant. But unfortunately guests looking for a good nights sleep might be disappointed as the floors can be quite squeaky.

Great location within easy walking distance of downtown Interlaken. We were traveling with our teenage soons and found it hard to find economical places for the four of us to stay. Hirschen was perfect for us. We stayed in a private room that had two sets of bunkbeds. Linens and towels were provided. The shower was right around the corner and we had a private sink in our room. Breakfast was great with a large sellection of items.

They do good breakfast (nice musli, nice breads, and good coffee!), and the view from the breakfast cafeteria is beautiful. Their restaurant downstairs are also reasonable, if you don't want to bother going out for dinner.

Their bed linens, and duvets are quite clean and comfortable.

Shared shower and toilet facilities are clean and reasonable, and reminds me of typical ski lodge in Europe. (we stayed in summer obviously).

One negative thing to be mentioned is that our room (twin-bank bands) seemed to be modified from some sort of shower room, quite small and the bank beds (i.e. floor) were in a slight angle...

But overall, good value!

Hirschen is a fantastic hotel for a stay in Interlaken. We got a great room and the service was fantastic - really homely and friendly staff. Highly recommended for travellers on a budget who want quaint and cute Swiss accommodation.
