Good bed, good shower - taking into account that we only payed 17 usd per person, that's all one can expect. We asked for an early breakfast and that was no problem.

About Jambo Inn
Jambo Inn Hotel is located in the heart of city centre. Having been established in 80’s the hotel has been running successfully for over 25 years. The proximity has paid parking available opposite the hotel allowing easy mobility and access to our customers. We are approximately 12km (20 minutes) away from the Dar-Es-Salaam International Airport, 2km (5 minutes) from the ferry, 5km (10minutes) away from Scandanavian bus station in town and 12km from the Ubungo bus station.
Jambo Inn aims to provide the best level of service to all its customers whether local or from abroad. Our hotel has a hospitable atmosphere and customers are provided all the information they require 24 hours a day to make their travel as comfortable and convenient as possible.
Within the premises we have a restaurant serving Indian, Continental, Chinese, BBq, fast food and many other exotic dishes at economical prices. The ceilings and walls of the restaurant have been painted with natures wonders creating a unique atmosphere for our customers to dine and enjoy their lunch or dinner.
The internet cafe is within the premisis and is accessible 12 hours a day allowing you to be in contact whether for business of personal purposes. The mini mart within the internet cafe serves chocolates, ice-creams, snacks, soft drinks, tobacco & juices making it as convenient as possible.
Hot Water is available 24 hours a day. The hotel has a generator that is switched on immediatly during power cuts allowing our customers to relax and enjoy their stay at all times.
We also provide a taxi service 24 hours a day whether its for airport, ferry, bus station, City tours or long distance travel at economical prices. We look forward in welcoming you and hope you have a pleasant stay and experience at Jambo Inn Hotel.

Good bed, good shower - taking into account that we only payed 17 usd per person, that's all one can expect. We asked for an early breakfast and that was no problem.
We recently traveled as a group of students to Dar, staying at Jambo Inn for about a week. We were told that cleaners would not clean the rooms unless we left our keys at reception, and that only the manager had second copies of these keys. Soon enough though, members of the group started realising relatively small amounts $10-$40 was starting to go missing from their travel wallets hidden in their rooms. A total of about 6 rooms got targeted that trip, one girl losing up to $100 dollars from a place she especially had moved her secret hiding place too. The Manager (infuriatingly) admitted that no such thing had ever happened to guests before. He persistently stated that their security measures and regular lock changes meant the Inn was not to blame and that it must be our human error losing the valuables. Clearly he was lying when reading any past review of Jambo Inn where a number of suspicious thefts took place behind the guard of the apparently innocent hotel staff and management. This was an inside job. Beware! Your stuff will get stolen. Its such a pity that an otherwise great experience has been ruined by a corrupt staff.

We had a great stay at Jambo Inn, overall. It is in a good part of town - close to the post office and the boat to Zanzibar. The office will hold bags for you for 1,000/= per day, which is a good idea if you want to escape to Zanzibar without a bunch of luggage. The manager is extremely helpful and the service has improved considerably since the last time we stayed there a few years ago. The only downside to this place is that the rooms are very simple, but adequate for a traveler on a budget.

I was abducted from Libya Street where the Jambo Inn is located and in subsequent conversations with the Tanzanian police and the British High Commission about the area, I found out that they were aware of a number of incidents on that road - specifically with people in registered taxis waiting outside the hotel taking tourists to ATMs and forcing them to withdraw money.
I wouldn't encourage people to stay here and would caution against walking alone in the area. Also, worth remembering to ask for taxi drivers' ID as they might not be a registered driver, despite being in a registered vehicle.
Whilst the hotel itself was fine (clean room, hot water on demand, small but tasty breakfast), the street on which it is located is not safe. The hotel manager was also actively unhelpful towards my friend as she tried to get help from them and the police whilst I was missing.

The manager and staff were really helpful - the food and breakfast were good. The location of the hotel was excellent and close to the bus and taxi services.
I recommend people to stay at this hotel if they are looking for budget accomodation.

dont be put off by the nightmare reports on the web, this is genuinely a fair budget hotel, unless you go there expecting western quality fittings and furnishings, and scrupulous cleanliness, you will not be disappointed.
try Mamboz restaurant just down Libya Street for great food
I have stayed at Jambo Inn on four occasions, once for a 10 day duration. The location is very good. If you are catching a bus to Moshi or Arusha, there is a booking office for Kilimanjaro Express and for Mtei two blocks away, saving a taxi trip to Ubungu Bus Station. (Arriving into Dar, the buses stop their service at Ubungu, so this only applies to trips traveling to Moshi and Arusha). The service at the hotel has always been excellent. The internet cafe is open late hours, the restaurant serves very good Indian food (as well as a variety of other cuisines). The only negatives that come to mind is the close proximity to a mosque, thus expect to be awakened in the very early morning with a call to prayer but in fairness, this is pretty unavoidable in most of the city except in the most soundproofed hotels. A very good value for the money.

location is why you choose this hotel. The taxi service is much too expensive, just take a taxi at the airport yourself. The room was very basic and not too clean.
With all this we could live, but with the attitude of the manager a little less.
For the money you pay you can get other hotels in the same area as well.
