Accommodation Tanzania Zanzibar Tamarind Beach Hotel

Tamarind Beach Hotel

Photos Facilities Map Streetview Reviews

Tamarind Beach Hotel is a bungalow hotel by the white sandy beaches of the Indian Ocean. Accommodation is set in a peaceful and friendly atmosphere, all rooms facing one of the most beautiful and unspoilt beaches in Zanzibar. This is one of the first hotels to be established in Zanzibar. Tamarind is affordable paradise.

Our hotel is a family place with lots of activities, trips and excursions for the whole family. You will love the white, fine-grained sand and the separate bungalows with the open areas around them. Our beach is quiet and safe, a heaven for children.

We arrange individual excursions. Whatever your interests and needs- we can help you fulfil your dreams. Explore the depths of the Indian Ocean on a diving trip, smell the exotic world of a Spice Trip at a spice farm, or see the historical Sultan's Palace and the old Slave Market in Zanzibar's Stone Town. Play with dolphins in the wild.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

The Tamarind needs a good revamp it is very old the bathroom is ancient beds are very hard and the pillows are like bricks. Not worth the dollars you pay and then to top it when you want to go out for the day they charge you 100 dollars a day for the driver. Not worth a second visit .

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

This hotel was in a more remote part of the Island - ideal if you want to be away from the main tourist areas. Beautiful beach and all rooms are literally a few metres from the beach. No cashpoint - bring plenty of US dollars or shillings - all food/drink for the week is paid for on departure. As with anywhere on Zanzibar, you can guarantee you will be hassled by locals for a massage or to buy things from nearby beach hut shops selling artwork. The massages are not professional - a local woman rubs oil onto you for $10 dollars (30 minutes) and you wake up with more knots in your back than you had to start with. Potentially dangerous if your back is delicate in the first place and the massages are 'administered' on the sun lounger - not in the slightest bit ergonomic! Hotel staff are friendly and speak reasonable English. There is no rush whatsoever here, time is almost irrelevant so if you want to get to the airport on time, ask for the taxi early (we waited 30 minutes extra for our return taxi - no urgency whatsoever). Breakfast is normally a set menu - 3 pieces of fresh fruit (e.g. papaya, banana, watermelon) followed by something bread-based or eggs on toast. Remember to ask for milk with tea/coffee as it is not provided automatically for some reason! Lunch and dinner menus have something for everyone - chicken is variable in quality! Overall a pleasant and most relaxing week, accommodation is basic, adequate, but on the whole comfortable and clean.
