Silom City Hotel is excellent value for money, with friendly, helpful and extremely courteous staff. It is located a little way from the central area for tourist attractions, but I consider this to be an advantage, and transport options are readily available a short walk away - either the BTS Skytrain or the public boat services on the river, both of which are very modestly priced. Door-to-door from the airport to hotel, using public transport only (train/metro/skytrain and final walk) took just under an hour.
I booked a superior level double room, which was efficiently air-conditioned and spotlessly clean. A buffet breakfast and two large bottles of water per day were provided in the room rate. The buffet breakfast was excellent, with a mix of western and SE Asian options; much greater variety and superior quality than many other similarly priced hotels I have stayed at in the past.
There is a small market nearby, and plenty of small 'street-style' restaurants on a parallel street a couple of minutes away - the food options here are fantastic (assuming you are comfortable with street food)!
There is a small bar available in the evening, but there is not really a comfortable area for enjoying a relaxed drink - the only option is sitting at once of the restaurant tables, or sitting outside in a small courtyard.
Overall, I was very impressed with this hotel (I would expect to be charged £150-200 per night for a similar quality room in the UK or US) and would definitely choose to stay here again should I visit Bangkok. I will also recommend it to my friends.
