This is a Trusted Review. Why?
Banilah bills itself as a "Boutique" hotel. I stayed here for two nights with my partner and the "boutique" tag should not have been applied to this guesthouse. Beware.
The room was adequate enough for the price we payed, so no complaints there. However, the really disappointing thing was of the bathroom. I booked a room with an attached bathroom, which ended up being attached alright. It could only be accessed through the room but one had to go outside through an open balcony to get to it. This is not mentioned while booking so beware. If it had been, I would have booked somewhere else. The bathroom was tiny, dingy, damp and dark the entire time. It never got dry as the AC condensate dripped inside it when the AC was on. We normally don't mind average bathrooms but this was not worthy of guesthouse standard. We didn't take a shower for the entire time we were there!
"Banilah is located next to the most fashionable quarter of the city". This statement has to be the most misleading of the lot. Tuk tuk drivers had a real hard time finding it and there was next to nothing within walking distance when it came to restaurants. We generally like to walk around the neighbourhood looking for dinner and found other places in Chiang Mai much, much better to stay if you are a tourist. There is absolutely nothing close to fashionable around Banilah. This statement is entirely false.
Bottom line: Banilah is not what it claims to be. The photos on the website are close-up, artistic shots of bits and bobs around the place and does not reflect the actual standard. (Notice how there are no photos of the room). This guesthouse isn't a guesthouse. It is a block of apartments turned into "boutique" accommodation. The only boutique thing was the handmade bar of lavender soap.
