In 2006, we created our Spicy Hostel that has since hosted thousands of very happy travelers... Do not miss your opportunity to experience the spiciness in Chiang Mai.

Beginning in September 2006, we have shown this country what a real backpackers hostel is and how to run a great hostel. Rated No.2 in Asia 2007 and No.1 in Thailand 2008, Spicythai has really brought the backpackers hostel to life in Thailand. A group of young locals with lots of travel experiences and warm hearts have created each Spicy and have brought them to the top of the game in a very short time. Six years of success prove very well that we have been doing the right thing.

Now Spicythai is in its new location: an even bigger and more beautiful house in a more convenient location, close to the Old City.

Special Features at Spicythai;

Apart from normal stuff that you will get at budget hostels such as free toiletries, a book swap, reference books, bed linens, parking, city maps, tour information, etc, we offer more including:

- Strong and firm handmade bunk beds (no funny noises to annoy you while sleep)

- AC in all dorms (we live in the city so AC is a good investment for climate and pollution)

- Free coffee and tea with toast, butter and jams

- Kitchen with free spices and oil

- Original honesty system mini-bar with 24/7 easy access

- Big-screen TV & home theater system with cable TV and an incredible collection of movies and TV series

- Communal computers with high speed internet until midnight and 24/7 free WiFi

- Free use of storage closet

--------------------------------------------------------

What makes Spicy different from the others is that you can really feel at home here. And we can not have a good home without good hosts.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

I haven't been to many backpackers, but this place was a great place for newbies. It has a very homely feel with almost everything you would find at home. A communal kitchen, dining room, lounge and front yard with hammocks strung between the trees. The place is located in a safe area, just outside the main city, but still within walking distance to many great cafes and cute boutiques shops. It has a great ambiance with photo collages on the walls, a home theatre system with an array of dvds, 2 computers with internet available and free wi-fi.

There's breakfast on the table every morning - corn flakes, muesli, milk, bananas and toast along with tea and coffee which really helps when you're on a tight budget, but also saves time.

We stayed in the mixed dorm room which had a/c and also our own bathroom. It's simple living. Pillows and blankets were provided, but towels had to be rented. Lockers are provided. Only downside is that we couldn't lock our room because we stayed in a dorm and others needed access. But in the end, everything was fine and nothing was lost.

The manager was incredibly friendly and very passionate about making sure his guests were entertained. He would arrange day trips for people to go to the Lake, white water rafting and also gave rides to the Night Bazaar and organize activities such as ten pin bowling.

One night he took us to a nearby Hot Pot Buffet, which was the BIGGEST buffet I've ever been to. Hundreds of locals and foriegners packed under one roofed area with tons of food to choose from and pots fired up by coal sat on our tables for us to cook our food. It's quite the experience. There was also live entertaining performances by comdedians and local artists.

We rented motorbikes/scooters (125cc) for 200 BHT a day (approx. $6USD). Really great value and allows great freedom to travel wherever, whenever. Drivers in Thailand too are much better than other SE Asian nations where they actually obey the road rules.

I would totally recommend this place if you're down to meet other travellers and want to have the opportunity to travel with others. Safe, cheap and fun - what more could you want?
