Latest Review for Bahaus Guesthouse

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

I stayed here in January 2009 and absolutely loved it! At 49 1/2 I was a little concerned about the age restriction thinking it would be full of teenagers, but this was not the case and I certainly was not made to feel 'old'!
I had booked a mixed dorm as I was on a relatively tight budget but, being low season there were not many guests so I was automatically upgraded to a female dorm with en suite bathroom which I had to myself for the first 2 nights.

If you want a true hostel experience, then come to Bahaus Guesthouse. As a youth hostel, we may not be able to offer you the luxury of a hotel, but we will try to give you an enjoyable holiday. THIS IS IMPORTANT: if you are not a true backpacker or hosteler, then Bahaus is not the place for you. If you are a true backpacker or hosteler then we will certainly try our best for you.

Bahaus is a fine example of a ''home away from home,'' located in Sultanahmet, in the centre of historic Istanbul on a quiet street. Within a few minutes walk of all major tourist attractions (Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia) and near bus, tram and train links.

At Bahaus, your safety is our priority. We have security cameras at key locations, 24 hour reception and dorm rooms have security card password locks. Put your valuables in your own large security lockers (bring your own padlocks and keys or rent them from us) or in our safe box while sightseeing.

All bathrooms have hygenic plastic toilet seat covers, automatic air freshners, extractor fans, foam dispensers and hair dryer. We try our best to keep the bathrooms clean, but also expect our customers to take responsibility for keeping them clean.

Enjoy a barbecue, water pipe or a moonlit drink on our spectacular open-air roof-top terrace with its breathtaking panoramic views of the Marmara Sea and the Asian side of Istanbul.(from10th of April til 15th of november)

The dorms are basic, beds are supplied with one sheet, a pillow and a blanket. The central heating was a bonus as in January it is damned cold. The shower had oodles of hot, powerful water and all of the toilets have their seats covered with some weird contraption which revolves around leaving you with a perfectly clean piece of plastic on which to park your bum. No towels but lots of toilet paper...and a hairdryer!!!
The upstairs bar cum breakfast room cum lounge area is absolutely gorgeous with a large sumptiously cushioned seating area where you can while away hours watching tv, playing cards, chess or backgammon or chat with fellow travellers over a cold beer. Beer by the way is 7L for a 500 ml bottle.
There is limited food available but it is cheap and filling.
The staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful, they successfully managed to arrange for me a visit to the Florence Nightingale Museum which involved photocopies of my passport, a fax to the Army headquarters and several phonecalls, none of which they charged me for.
It really felt like a home from home and even after just 4 nights, I did not want to leave.
One point though, if you arrange an airport transfer, make sure they fully understand which airport you are arriving at otherwise, like me, you could face a bus, a metro, the fernicular, a tram and finally a walk to get there. If you choose to go this way, it is actually very easy and will cost you no more than £9.00
