This is a Trusted Review. Why?
We (two of us) booked 2 beds in a 4-dorm room but on the arrival we were told that 4bed room is not available and were sent to a 6-dorm room. There were 5 people already in that room so we went back to the reception and got them to find 2 beds. After a while we got our two beds in a 4-dorm room.
Re the price, we were in Banff at the beginning of June and we found hotels and B&Bs directly in town for 50-60 CAN$ per private room. Paying $70 for two shared beds wasn't worth it.... more

My recommendation would be to come in to town of Banff first, check there and use HI Banff Alpine Centre as a last resort.

on the city transit at any of the stops on Banff Avenue, the main street in town; tell the driver you want to go to the hostel on Tunnel Mountain Road and he'll drop you off at our door! (The bus runs every 40 minutes)
2) Grab a taxi - it costs between $6 and $7 dollars depending on where you jump on and it's a quick ride to our front door.
3) Walk! If it's a nice day, it's a great way to see the town and the mountains. We're about a 20-minute walk from the bus station. Just leave the station, turn left on Lynx st., left on Wolf st., left on Tunnel Mountain Drive and follow the road to the top of the hill. Look for our sign on the left hand side of the road right after Tunnel Mountain Chalets.
