Built in 1898, Hotel Champ-de-Mars is located near the gates of the Old Port of Montreal, approximately nine miles from Trudeau-Dorval International Airport.

The Hotel Champ-de-Mars is at the eastern main entrance of the Old Port of Montreal, near the Saint Lawrence River, on 756 Berri Street.

The street's name is said to come from Simon Despres, known as Le Berry, a wealthy landowner who was killed by Iroquois in 1663.

The northern facade of the hotel is bordered by Saint Louis Street, formerly the main road of the little suburb Saint Louis, which had developed just outside the fortifications during the 1740's. The southern facade of the hotel is bordered by the Parc de Ville-de-la-Fleche.

The hotel is also near Place Jacques-Cartier, one of the liveliest spots in Montreal. In the early 19th century the hotel served as a rooming house and tavern favored by sailors before change of ownership and subsequent renovation.

Hotel amenities include the restaurant and bar (Blues Cafe), and access to the Energie Cardio Fitness Club, aerobics, massage treatments, and tanning areas.

The hotel also offers concierge service, dry cleaning, and complimentary High-speed Wireless Internet access.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

The hotel staff were very unfriendly and were unwilling to help offer advice. The hotel is not particularly well maintained and access to my room was very difficult as there was no elevator. Although I only had one case, the stairs were so narrow that it was very tight getting myself and my case up and down from my room. When I entered my room, i was shocked at the size. there was barely any room for me to store my case. I had to leave it on the floor as there was no closet and step over it as the floor space surrounding the bed was so narrow. The room was very noisy and the toilet kept running for nearly an hour after it was flushed. I could hear the plumbing from the other rooms.

I would not recommend this hotel.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

I really enjoy this hotel and have stayed there twice. It is clean, friendly, easily accessible and has free wifi. The food is pleasant and there are pleasant extras like the use of a nearby gym. The cost is also excellent when compared to similar facilities. It is just a nice place run by nice people. I hope to return.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

It's good value for money. but if you like proper hotel this one may not be up to your standard. It provides basic facilities, but the room where we stayed had a bit problem with the bathroom doors-- it doesn't close properly. Also the bath tap doesn't work properly so we couldn't have shower.
The hotel says breakfast is complimentary but it's not for some customers, which I guess depends on how much you pay. The service is generally okay, depends on the person who serves you. Some staff are pretty nice.
The location is what I like the best. It's so close to the old Montreal port. Easy walk around to see the French-like places.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Great atmosphere and location. Fantastic value for money with a wholesome free breakfast. Rather unfortunate air-conditioning was not operating during our stay and our room was extremely hot, over night. Workman had been present to fix the problem. Beware there is not lift and you will have to get your bags up narrow stairs.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Good location, but building is very noisy (creaks and noisy plumbing) plus rooms of only acceptable quality. Breakfast is good - you get a full menu of cooked/uncooked choices.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

The hotel was quite disappointing. The location is at the edge of Old Montreal next the an abandoned building. Reception was rarely available because there was never anyone there, and it was lousy (unwelcoming, not very informative of hotel and services).

As for the room itself, the floors were lopsided (in fact the bed wasn't even flat because of how crooked the floors were). Very thin walls and dim lighting (washroom extremely low lighting with one light bulb burnt out) Room and hotel reeks for washroom soaps. The tiles were loose and came off. The sink was also crooked.

If you're going on a low budget and don't care about quality, this is the place for you.

Btw: there is NO 24 hour check-in (it's 2pm to 11pm), 24 hour reception, gym, health spa or travel info desk.
