This is a Trusted Review. Why?

This wasn't really like staying at a youth hostel, more like staying over at someone's house when they happened to be having a lot of houseguests, or an extended lost weekend. This is the sort of place where some people go off to bed at a sensible hour, while others stay downstairs playing poker till two in the morning, or drinking beer, or just talking about stuff (on the night I was there, the crowd included an epicure from Arkansas, a young graduate interviewing for a job at the White House, an actor from England, and a Dutch man about to run his 53rd marathon). Also, there are plenty of communal activities - if you like that sort of thing; it's also perfectly possible not to take part. During the day, though, when the place is empty, sitting on the porch and reading a book feels restful, like you're visiting your parents.

Location wise, it's a short walk from a metro station, which is useful, although the station is about 15-20 minutes out of town. Not much in the neighbourhood - a handy seven-eleven and liquor store nearby, but really you'll be wanting to head into the centre. Slightly too many beds in each room, and slightly too few bathrooms, but that probably keeps the cost down. Very good value, and a great place to meet interesting people.
