we had booked online from Austria, Europe a cheap double and did not know anything but the homepage infos.
first we got a dark room in the basement (there was nothing else available) but then after 2 days we could change to a better and larger one on the second floor.
(so insist on getting a room not in the basement - they are darkest and the window - if there is one - is below groundlevel and to a backyard.... more

We are a small, European-style budget hotel, located in the trendy Plateau district of Montreal. We provide clean and comfortable rooms at the lowest possible rate, and are within walking distance of the heart of the downtown business, entertainment and cultural centre.
A cross between a B&B and a larger hotel, at Hotel Park Avenue you will find yourself in unpretentious and cheerful surroundings. Our Standard Room has one double bed, air conditioning, a small fridge, private bathroom with shower, radio, telephone and cable T.V. The rooms are newly renovated, bright and cosy. We have 24-hour reception, safety deposit box and smoke detectors on site. Guests are able to use a shared kitchen and make free local phone calls.
All major credit cards accepted. Check-in 3 PM, check-out noon.

it's in a nice district of Montreal not too for from the subway station MontRoyal (10 mins.? walk), not totally fresh and clean but okay for the price.

Keep in mind that this is a one-star hotel, but it surely will be tough to beat this one! Very friendly staff, great price for this location and very convenient to have a fridge and microwave in the room.
It is about a 10min walk to the nearest metro station, which is maybe a negative but on the other hand you are right at the parc Mont Royal for your morning run. The nearest city bike station is across the street.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to everybody!
