Situated down a small, quiet lane just 1 block north of the steps of the St Joseph’s Cathedral in the centre of town and 3 minutes walk to Hoan Kiem Lake. The hostel is perfectly located to explore Hanoi’s Old Quarter.

Once an old French Diplomat’s House, it was converted into Vietnam’s FIRST ever hostel and it’s where the VBH story began. It’s smaller, with original French architectural features, homely and a little more laid-back than our hostel at our Downtown location.

The Original hostel offers both spacious dorms and private rooms, which include breakfast. We also offer FREE water to keep you cool in the summer & so you can spend your extra Dong on some cool souvenirs to bring back home!

Our kitchen and bar serves up tasty comfort food, local Vietnamese food specialities and DAILY happy hours! We have awesome events including quiz nights, beer pong, giant jenga and much much more… Good times are our business!

We also offer:

-FREE WIFI

-FREE computers for guest use

-FREE walking tours through the Old Quarter

-Weekly Vietnamese food feast

-24 Hour Reception

-Airport Pick Ups

-Visa Invitation Letters

-Movie Room

-A ROOFTOP BAR - perfect way to make new friends and socialise in small but intimate environment. We shut it down at 9.30pm but do take the party elsewhere if you want to carry on.

We have an awesome travel crew who are ready to help with all your travel needs and of course we can’t forget to mention that we are the home of the original Castaways Island trip in Ha Long Bay!

If you’re a bit more of night owl and prefer to have bigger nights, check out our Downtown hostel. It’s a short walk away from The Original, located right along one of the busiest and happening streets in the city!

Look out for our Red Buffalo and find our other hostel sites in Hoi An (DK’s House), Hue & Sapa (Mountain View)

We look forward to showing you an unforgettable stay in Hanoi!
