Budget Accommodation Europe Germany Nuremberg Hostels Lette`m Sleep Hostel
Friendly and very helpful staff in a great location. It was nice to stay in a place that had great (free) facilities and an inviting atmosphere.
The first Backpackers Hostel in Nuremberg, situated right in the middle of the medieval town, surrounded by bars, clubs, restaurants, culture and sights and one of Germany´s largest shopping miles, offers a full range of services in an easy going atmosphere .
The hostel is located five walking minutes from the main train station Hauptbahnhof, and 30 meters from the next subway station. Situated inside the medieval city wall and in the neighbourhood of the opera, traffic museum, and the German National Museum, all the other sights of the old part of the town (downtown) are in walking distance.
You can reach the trade fair centre, the former Nazi rally grounds with the new documentation centre, and the exhibition 'Fascination and Violence' by the public transportation system easily and fast.
Lette'm sleep offers dorms, four beds rooms, triple rooms, and doubles. Free hot showers and toilets are in the corridor on every floor, and on the ground floor there is a common room and a kitchen for you, where you can find free internet, free tea and coffee, and prepare your own food.

Students and travellers on a budget will find this hostel a cheap and cheerful alternative to the pricier hotels in town, but with a correspondingly reduced level of comfort and cleanliness. You will need your own towels and soap, and linen or a sleeping bag is recommended (or you can hire for 3 Euros a night).
On the plus side: Young, friendly staff and a casual approach give the hostel an atmosphere more like a commune or student halls than that which you will find in gasthauses or hotels, and the 20 something average age of the travellers I encountered only served to reinforce that impression.
Free computer/internet/coffee.
No curfew - Front door pass code allows entry at any time.
Secure luggage room (somewhat undermined by casual supervision of master-key use by residents).
Well situated for the train station (5 min walk alongside the city walls). Most of old Nuremberg is within easy walking distance, or if you're feeling weary, a single 4 Euro U-bahn (subway train) ticket can be used all day to get around. The Opernhaus stop is about 50 metres from the hostel, on the U2 line (goes all the way to the airport), but you'll need to change lines at the main station or the Plärrer multi-line station if you want to get around the inner city.
Also convenient for Finnegans Irish Pub on nearby Königstrasse (one of the main streets, with lots of food and retail outlets). Definitely a place to go if you want guaranteed English-speaking company and a home-from-home. The King's Arms 'English Pub' on Jakobsplatz is also nearby (although following a Westerly route to it from the hostel will take you through the small - and only slightly seedy - red light district). This pub's 'Englishness' can be judged from the fact that the staff are German and on the night I was there it was playing host to some French guys (one in a red tartan kilt) who were doing something unspeakably stinky that involved roasting cheese, as far as I could tell. Just wrong on so many levels!
Points against Lette'm Sleep (apart from the lame name) include: limited security for females (no locks on doors might mean less likelihood of heroin addicts jacking up in toilets or rooms, but also increased risk of theft or assault). Be warned.
Communal bathrooms are spartan and poorly lit, and get busy in the morning, with everyone deciding to go at the same time, but I never experienced a lack of hot water, even later in the morning (tip - as the shower stops after about 15 seconds, keep pressing the button every few moments to keep a constant flow).
Walls and ceilings are very thin, and you are almost guaranteed to hear your neighbours come back late and carry on partying, or even just talking, into the small hours.
The booking system seems a little chaotic - they were overbooked when I came to claim my reserved bed, and I witnessed other guests being moved from room to room in order to accommodate everyone, but at least I didn't have to pay on the first night due to the mix up.
Risk of bed bugs and other parasites - due to the high turnover of guests, and the relaxed janitorial regime, there is in all likelihood a high risk of being bitten by something in the night. Let's hope it's just your partner initiating foreplay. I found some bites later the next day after my first night, but cannot definitively say how I got them. I have a theory that significant blood-alcohol levels may deter parasites, but I need to test it thoroughly over a prolonged period to be sure. It's a tough job, but...
In summary -
You get slightly more than you pay for with the location (tucked up next to the mediaeval city walls) and the artsy, studenty vibe going on, but if you are easily discomfited then you should look to pay more for better standards elsewhere.
