About Kappa Tengoku Ryokan

Located just above the Odakyu Hakone Yumoto Station, Kappa Tengoku is only 3 min walk from the station. It is on the hill and surrounded by trees. Kappa means 'water sprite' and Tengoku means 'heaven' in Japanese.

You can view the Hakone Yumoto town and streets from its guest rooms or ashiyu onsen (hot spring foot bath). Last check-in time is 10PM. Please make sure to arrive between 3PM and 10PM.

We on the steep hill side and there are over 20 steps up to the hotel entrance. So get ready to use a lot of mustle...

En-suite room is normally a combination of Japanese and Western-style. There are two beds in a Japanese tatami room.

Its onsen public baths are famous among Japanese tourists for its price and picked up as one of the cheap recommended spots in Hakone. The onsen bath are made with rocks. The temperature of the onsen water is somewhat lower than the ones in other places but it is still relaxing and will warm you up if you keep sitting in the bath tub over several minutes.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

We stayed a night at this Ryokan, during out trip to Hakone. It is located conveniently, just outside the Hakone Yumoto station. There is a clear sign in English, so we did not have to ask anyone to find our way. The problem is that one needs to climb 85 steep steps to get tho the hotel. (not 20, as is mentioned during booking). So, their advice to avoid heavy luggage should be taken seriously. In the hotel, we had to walk on a plank and on a slightly slippery metal passage to get to the section where our room was located. Once we got to the room, it was great. The staff were co-operative. The laid out the futons for us. The Japanese gowns and the green tea kit added to the fun. The bathroom and toilet were clean and had soap, small towels, hot water etc. The beer can vending machine outside the room was also very convenient. Overall, it was good value for money, I would say. I will choose the same hotel if we visit Hakone again.

Kappa Tengoku Ryokan is really worth the money!
The onzen was nice -> a lot better than i thought
it would be. The futon was clean and new.

but well, you cant really expect much from 3000 yen/night
the building is a little bit run down and air con is
a bit dirty.

Overall, I like it!!!
