About Port Charlotte Islay Youth Hostel

Islay is an ideal place to relax with beautiful sandy beaches, towering cliffs, birdlife and eight whisky distilleries. The hostel has wonderful sea views and good facilities and is popular with families, cyclists, walkers and independent travellers. Situated in the prettiest village on the island - Port Charlotte - there are good and varied dining-out options nearby

Along with its outstanding natural beauty Islay is also famed for its diverse and plentiful wildlife, and is home to two RSPB nature reserves. With its excellent accommodation and facilities, the hostel (and the attached Wildlife Centre) is an ideal base from which to explore all that Islay has to offer - along with visits to neighbouring wild Jura.

Conditions

The hostel is situated on the beautiful Bay of Loch Indaal commanding expansive views of Islay and the hills of the neighbouring Isle of Jura.
A friendly welcome and lots of helpful local information await guests to this cosy hostel.
The well-equipped kitchen & common room both overlook the Bay.
The garden with picnic benches sit beside the sandy beach just beneath the hostel.
Excellent electric shower facilities.

please note check in is between 5pm and 10.30 pm and check out by 10am

Directions

By Bus:
Bus leaves from Port Askaig and Port Ellen Ferry Terminal (Last Bus 5pm) to Port Charlotte.

By Car:
From Port Askaig or Port Ellen Ferry Terminal, take the A846 to Bridgend. At this junction take the A842 to Port Charlotte.

On Foot:
The bus stops outside the hostel gate in the village of Port Charlotte.

By Ferry:
Daily ferry service (inc. Sundays) from Kennacraig on the Kintyre Peninsula (on the A83 Glasgow to Campbeltown road). Ferry from Oban (via Colonsay) on a Wednesday only.

By Air:
Two daily flights from Glasgow to Islay by BA
