About Wester Caputh Lodge

A converted farm steading by the River Tay, 12 miles north of Perth and 4 miles from Dunkeld, just over an hour's drive from Edinburgh.

Wester Caputh Lodge is an old farm steading on the outskirts of the village of Caputh which lies on the River Tay, 4 miles east of Dunkeld (pubs with great local music, nearest train station) and 10 miles north of Perth (hourly bus service to Caputh).

Excellent walking, mountain biking, fishing, bird watching, canoeing & rafting. Five castles and 4 distilleries within an hour's drive.

A large sitting/dining/kitchen space opens onto a sunny outside terrace. There is a stone fireplace with wood-burning stove (logs supplied) and a piano, along with other instruments, for guests to use.

The kitchen is complete with stainless steel double sink, two gas hobs, an electric oven and a large fridge. The kitchen also has a microwave, a toaster and masses of pans.

Accommodation is in five separate bedrooms: 2 rooms with 2 bunks; 1 room with 2 bunks + double fold-out bed; 1 room with 4 bunks; and 1 room with 6 bunks. Beds come with pillows and duvets, made up with clean linen.

Outside: a grassy area surrounds the hostel, complete with picnic tables and BBQs (charcoal available to purchase).

Location Information

Car: For Wester Caputh from the A9 South take the Dunkeld/Birnam exit, and turn directly right (signposted Caputh/Coupar Angus A984) at the bridge as you enter Dunkeld. Follow this road for four miles and take a right at the B9099 (signposted Murthly/Stanley). Pass the graveyard on right, pass a field on left and as you veer round to the left you'll see the farmhouse and hostel on the left (long white building).

For Wester Caputh from the A9 going north, quickest route, take Luncarty exit two miles north of Perth and follow the B9099 through Luncarty, Stanley and Murthly towards Caputh. Enter Caputh after the bridge and take the first left in the village. Hostel is 150 metres on right.

Train and Bus: Take the train to Perth, from where there is a regular (approx hourly) bus service from Mill Street bus station to Caputh, taking approx 30 mins. Alternatively take the train to Birnam, across the bridge from Dunkeld. Unfortunately the bus service from Dunkeld to Caputh is very infrequent. A taxi costs approx £8.
