Budget Accommodation Europe Croatia Zagreb Bed & Breakfasts Rooms Subiceva16
The rooms were ideally located for our one night stop-over in Zagreb. I was initially worried about some of the reviews saying that the owner didn't show up, but went ahead and booked due to the reasonable price and convenient location for our needs.
Nice simple apartment with 2 rooms (twin, double). Central, clean, old stylish rooms with typical Zagreb atmosphere. This is a Trusted Review. Why?
The rooms were ideally located for our one night stop-over in Zagreb. I was initially worried about some of the reviews saying that the owner didn't show up, but went ahead and booked due to the reasonable price and convenient location for our needs. We were flying in late so I wanted something that was close to the airport bus drop off (i.e. the main bus station). The place was easy walking distance from the bus station, and close enough to the main train station to walk/tram a few stops on our departure the next morning. The closest tram station (almost directly across from the building entrance) was under construction during our stay, and would have increased the accessibility of the rooms even more if it had been open. Because of our late arrival, and concern about the no-show reviews, I immediately texted and emailed the owner after booking to explain our situation and get confirmation that someone would be there when we arrived. I received prompt response (by both SMS and email) that our late arrival was ok.
The room itself left a lot to be desired. The rooms were old and stuffy and the furnishings looked worn. Though I wouldn't say the place was obviously dirty, the silverfish infestation had us thinking twice about leaving our bags open for any extended amount of time. It also had us wondering about the cleanliness of the sheets and towels, even though they appeared to be washed and clean. The owner only indicated that we had access to our rooms and the one bathroom (it should also be noted that the toilet is in a room by itself, while the sink, shower, and washing machine are in a separate room), and it was only the next morning when I decided to go ahead and open up the door marked "privat" that I discovered the kitchen area.
Strangely enough, despite the sketchy furnishings, the pillow and mattress were probably the most comfortable encountered during my entire trip. Though this largely comes down to personal preference, I found the memory foam-esque mattress to be super comfortable and much higher quality then the other run-down, lumpy mattresses we encountered during our travels at more expensive places.
Overall, I'm glad we only had to stay one night here. You get what you pay for, so if you're simply passing through and looking for a budget place to sleep for a night or two, this place will serve you well. However, if you're looking for a cleaner and more fully featured place, or planning to spend a few nights in the city and want to explore the main square area, there are plenty of other better-reviewed hostels which can meet your needs.
