Please note: This is not a party hostel!

Housed in a 19th century building once used as a casino for Hungarian military

officers, The Groove, in operation since 2008, has provided thousands

of guests from all over the world with the most well rounded living experience Budapest

has to offer.

Our rooms, with their high ceilings and woodgrain floors provide a sense of

openness not found in hostels with smaller, compact spaces. Wander through the rooms

and you'll find yourself standing (or sitting if that’s your thing) on our sundrenched

balcony overlooking Budapest’s renowned Comedy Theatre and Margaret Bridge

with a free cup of tea or coffee in hand.

Owned and operated by what might as well be a family of local Hungarians, our hostel provides the perfect environment for making friends and immersing oneself in the culture. Our helpful local staff will take good care of your needs around the clock and you will never be short of information on what to see and do here. In case you prefer finding your own information, you can go online anytime on our computer or use the wireless network, all for free. If you are looking for company, find a cooking partner in the fully equipped kitchen, hang out with fellow travellers in our lounge or watch a movie in our cozy TV-corner. In addition to the lounge area, all our spacious rooms offer chillout areas for you to enjoy the beautiful view and make new friends.

Our one and only house rule is: FEEL AT HOME!

This means live how you would live at home: be respectful with your fellow travellers and our staff, keep clean, and in general, be the kind of person you would be happy to host. Though we have no restrictions please note that this is not a party hostel; if you feel like partying late, we will ask you to do so at one of the city's infinite awesome party locations.'

Children, under age of 16 are only allowed in the private rooms. In case of a group booking - after contacting us - children might be allowed in the dorms.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

The Groove is a converted appartment in a big beautiful old house. Hard to spot from the outside you have enter the archway and either climb to the second floor or take the lift upstairs. The house encases a whole block, there is an open courtyard in the middle and the floor runs around this courtyard like a balcony. Great architecture and a nice feel.

Inside the hostel there is a common room and a tiny kitchen, all in one room. There is free use of the computer with internet access. Showers and toilets are clean. There is a balcony in one of the rooms overlooking the street, it is a good place for people watching.

The feature of the hostel that will stick in your mind is that the walls and ceiling are very high up. This has given the hostel an excuse to have custom-made beds that make full use of the vertical space. The large lockers are under the bottom bunk beds, so even the bottom bunks require small people to jump up to get into them. The top bunks hoover at around 2 meters height. Some beds are on a platform that is built into the dormitory and that is even higher up, so this hostel is definitely not for people who suffer from acrophobia. Upside of this vertical space is that the hostel has a light airy feeling to it, you'll never feel stifled thanks to the large windows.

The location of the hostel is very good, quite a lot of the sights are within walking distance and there is easy access to public transport.

Downside is that it is located above a busy street with noisy traffic well until midnight.

Accessibility: Somebody travelling in a wheelchair would have some problems because the lift is small and there are 3 stairs to get to the lift. Toilets and showers in the hostel are not wheelchair-friendly either. But for somebody who would be able to stand or take a few steps it would be ok.
