Positives, Clean Friendly, Cheap, (Free use of Internet ,aircon in rooms )
Negatives , I only saw 2 toilets available in the whole hostel, so there can be waiting. The biggest problem can be noise . It is a wooden structure so you can hear people walking around late at night on the 2nd floor , and the walls are just a plaster board so you can hear talking etc in the rooms next to you.

I stayed for a night at the Old Penang Guesthouse and it was one of the memorable experiences of my travel in Malaysia.
The little guesthouse is an interesting, old place with a lot of guests from all over the world so it is a great place for interaction. The rooms are basic but comfortable. I stayed in Room 10 which had wooden floors and ceiling to floor shutters overlooking the street which was really lovely.
It felt like being in a school hostel as there were strict rules to follow such as no shoes to be worn upstairs, make your own breakfast and clean up your breakfast table yourself etc. but the place has a lot of character that makes it worthwhile to stay there despite the rules.
