About Palazzo Desdemona

An Italian style pension with a large terrace offering splendid views out over the Atlantic. There are 15 rooms in total, all individually designed in wood. It has a great location with a very easy access from Bab Sbaa neer the port, the beach, the souks area in the must better avenue from Essaouira

Essaouria is a small and friendly coastal town with a relaxed atmosphere. The majority of the town is encased within the white Medina walls with a fortified harbor at one end. The town is small and visitor friendly with the souks selling a wide selection of Moroccan goods. The harbor is a hive of fishing activity, a lunch time treat has to be selecting fresh fish and having it cooked in front you Moroccan style, absolutely delicious! Either side of the town there are long sweeping beaches, with the strong Atlantic winds they are ideal for most water sports.

This new guest house is Italian run and the style is elegant yet simple, light and breezy. While there is no central courtyard (as in all other riads) there is a Mediterranean style roof terrace with great views of the Atlantic. There are 15 en-suite rooms all individually decorated, most with four poster wooden beds and there is a the typical Essaouiran blue and white theme through-out the guest house. Palazzo Desdemona is situated in close proximity to the medina and souks as well as the harbor wall and an excellent selection of sea food restaurants.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

The Palazzo Desdemona is a charming Riad in a very good location for exploring Essaouira, near the fort and the Medina. It is peaceful, cool, airy and made of stone, wood, iron and cotton. Nothing plastic here. It is a big building with a timeless air about it. It is worth having a quick look at a few of the other rooms if you get the chance, the empty ones are open and aired every day, all of them look good given the price. Everywhere I saw was very clean. Booking online was efficient, payment was currency flexible.

One thing to understand is that the building is not new, it feels like it will be there forever, because it already has been. It just gets better like fine wine, you couldn't decorate it every year. If you can see that, you will appreciate the timeless charm.

This riad is an oasis of calm compared with the busy shops and restaurants of the Medina, nice to get back to sometimes. It is about 200 metres from the north end of the beach.

The staff are friendly and unendingly helpful. Breakfast is crepes, honey, warm fresh bread, plenty of coffee and fresh orange.

I would go back without hesitation - hope this is helpful.
