Mr. Yoo was a very nice man who welcomed us to his House Hostel. ALthough our visit was very short, we enjoyed sokcho to the fullest. Mr.Yoo showed us a map of Sokcho and introduced to us popular tourist destinations and gave us detailed information(buses and fares...).
A proper map to the house hostel is necessary before going. Google maps didn't cut it. It would have been helpful for us if it was provided as we were lost for hours dragging our luggage trying to find it.

A proper map to the house hostel is necessary before going. Google maps didn't cut it. It would have been helpful for us if it was provided as we were lost for hours dragging our luggage trying to find it. Even taxi drivers didn't know where it was and wouldn't drive us. Thankfully for the huge billboard we found House Hostel.
Our room (4 bed private ensuite) consisted of a large bathroom (includes a tub, a toilet and a sink), 2 sets of wooden bunk beds, computer, fan, a/c (right over the bunk bed...made it uncomfortable). Theres no elevator, but they would help bring your luggage to your room.
The kitchen on the main floor is shared by everyone. It also acts as a comunal space and lounge. Free breakfast every morning (coffee, toast, cereal). It also is a internet cafe. It is a comfortable and beautiful space...decorated with Yoo's artwork. We also met a few other travellers who were nice to talk to. We even hiked together at Mt.Seorak.
The House Hostel is a definite place to stay if you want to visit Sokcho, or specifically because of Mr.Yoo's hospitality! I will be sure to visit again when I get another chance to travel.

We stayed at the House Hostel for only one night. However, we were very satisfied with our stay. Yoo runs The House Hostel. He is very nice and his English is excellent. He gave us a map of Sokcho and Seoraksan and gave us all sorts of information on sites to see, how long certain hikes take, bus numbers and more. In the morning we took 2 bikes (free) and biked to a nearby beach to watch the sunrise. It was awesome. I highly recommend The House Hostel and will be returning soon.

This was one of the most pleasant hostels I've stayed at. The owner gave us an extremely helpful overview of buses, times, restaurants, etc. and the room was simple but had everything you would need (fan, shampoo, air conditioning, tv, mini-fridge...oh, except towels). There are three computers with free internet access; also toast and cereal in the morning. Great transport links. Nice patio and a cute dog. Highly recommended.
p.s. It's near the intercity bus terminal, not the express terminal.

This was the best guest house we used in South Korea. The location was excellent but the most memorable part is Yoo and his mother who gave us a really warm welcome. We had cake brought to our room on the last night and mother waved to us all the way from the house to the end of the road! We would recommend this to everyone.
We (My wife and I) are very impress with the cleaniness of the house, room and especially how the owner decorate the house, very details and piece of art. Yu and his mother is very freindly and helpful... Free breakfast.. free internet... free tips from yu, free DVD player w DVDs, and smooth bed/ pillow. My most unforgetable moment was Yu keep waving to us as if we are one of his sibling/ kins, really touching and very good feeling. All the pictures in the internet are true. The best guest house stayed in Seoul Korea (but take note that it is 3 hours from Seoul. And please do not take Express Bus Terminal, it is totally different with Bus Terminal... if you ended at Socho beach... you already lost and please ask for direction... Recomended this guest house to all!!
a little smoking flavor so that we asked to change another room
so far it is a convenient location
