Saruhan Hotel

It was a little bit difficult to find at first but once you learn how to move in zig zag streets of Sultanahmet, everything is as easy as find the big mosques. There is no elevator which could be a problem if you are in the third floor.

About Saruhan Hotel

Saruhan Hotel is a yellow stone house run by a Turkish Family, this is one of the only hotels in Istanbul decorated with stone and wood together. It is located in the heart of the open air museum Istanbul, in the historical area. It is ideal for visiting by foot.

Named after the smoothly-hewn yellow-tinted stone, our hotel, "Saruhan," is old Turkish for "The Yellow Inn."

The yellow stone was specially quarried in the Cappadocia region while the property also features marble floors everywhere and the most beautiful woodwork-interior and creates an atmosphere strongly reminiscent of the fine old Ottoman mansions of yester year.

9 months of the most careful restoration has ensured that everything is modern and spotlessly clean!

The property features large and beautifully decorated rooms and bathrooms, WI-FI service everywhere even in your rooms. Almost all the rooms also have nice balconies!

More than one guest have commented on our excellent mattresses, on their perfect night's sleep, on the spacious, beautifully-tiled bathrooms, the double-glazed windows, the air-conditioning, Satellite TV, the balconies and, on the upper floors, the inspiring city views of Istanbul itself and the sea views to Asia and the Princess Islands.

A lovely Turkish-style breakfast on terrace complete with the most delicious homemade jams - is taken on the open roof-terrace with the sea and all of its vistas right in front of you.

But our location is also unique! Our hotel is conveniently located for visitors who want to immerse in the local life while staying close to the main sight-seeing spots (a few minutes walk to the Blue Mosque and Ayasofya ).

The Saruhan Hotel is owned by Mr and Mrs. Faik Aytekin but managed by their enterprising children, Miss Elif Aytekin and her brother, Ersin Aytekin, both in their twenties. Elif and Ersin not only speak very good English, but they are also very sweet-natured and genuinely interested in their guests.

The hotel has a very informal atmosphere, Elif and Ersin always have time for a chat and are always ready to help to maximize the comfort of their guests and to give good advice about the wonderful world of Istanbul which begins at their doorstep.

It was a little bit difficult to find at first but once you learn how to move in zig zag streets of Sultanahmet, everything is as easy as find the big mosques. There is no elevator which could be a problem if you are in the third floor. The rooms are just awesome! very clean, well-equipped, styled, the staff is 24hrs helpful and the price is reasonable in comparison with most hotels in the city. I totally remommend it.

The Saruhan hotel can definitely be recommended. Only positive things cross my mind when I look back on our stay there: clean, value for money, decent breakfast, superb staff, great view from the roof, ... The surroundings are nice and fairly authentic. The small park nearby is an ideal spot for watching Istanbul life and sipping on a cup of tea. Bear in mind that the city centre (blue mosque etc.) is a short, though steep, walk away.

Overall well priced 3 star accommodation in a handy location to all the sights of Sultanahmet. Good sized rooms with good en-suite facilities. The young staff are very helpful and friendly and speak good english.
Nice continental breakfast with pleasant views over the Marmara sea.
If we ever return to Istanbul, would definitely stay here again.

Linen was really good quality in the rooms on the top floors; not as good on the bottom floor rooms. However, the rooms on top are very light so if you can't sleep with lots of light, go to the bottom rooms. Also, you can hear the Muslim prayers at 6 am from these top rooms.

Service was pretty good and location too.

They're installing flat screens so that should be up and running very soon for everyones' enjoyment after a hard day exploring.

If you want scambled eggs or orange juice for breakfast, you have to pay extra!!

Free pick-up from the Sultanamet train station was on foot so beware if you have a lot of luggage!!

Overall, the hotel is good value for money, if you just want the basics.

What a wonderful place to stay - a real home from home. Our room was spacious, well-equipped and comfortable with a fantastic view of the sea and parts of Istanbul and the islands. We loved being able to enjoy breakfast and sundowners on the rooftop terrace. The owners and staff members were wonderful and accommodating in seeing to all our needs whether they were travel arrangements, dinner suggestions, maps and directions, shopping, access to the Internet or just information about modern-day Turkey.
We have no hesitation in recommending the Sarahun Hotel to anyone visiting Istanbul.

The staff was incredibly helpful in arranging last minute changes in our travel itineraries. They were quick in responding to inquiries before we arrived, and delightful in helping us navigate Istanbul.
The area surrounding the hotel is charming and away from the tourist hustle and bustle. The breakfast is delicious and filled with local delights. The view from the rooftop terrace is worthy of postcards and could be enjoyed prior to and after a long day of touristing. We would recommend this charming and well run hotel (although it lives more like a guesthouse) to anyone interested in experiencing the best of Istanbul.
