This is a Trusted Review. Why?
First let me say that lots of people seemed to find this place really hard to find but we had no issues following the written instructions given on the booking. I had read quite a few reviews about the main hostel section of this establishment and knew to expect better as we had booked a private double ensuite. We stayed in a separate building, in an apartment. The stairway up to it was grubby and dusty and our immediate impression was oh dear but the apartment was nice and the room was large with ample furniture and storage and a good size bathroom with corner bath. There was a washing machine in there for some reason and the shower was not on the wall so you just had to sit in the bath and hold it over yourself....but this wasn't the end of the world! We had asked to see the room before paying and the little Moroccan guy who checked us in was really friendly both then and each time we seen him. We paid and were hit with an extra 3 euro per night per person tourist tax.....be aware of this when booking anywhere to stay in the city. Altogether our 5 nights stay cost 530 euro or so.....rather steep for a hostel or two star hotel.....I'm not sure which it claims to be. Lots of lights didn't work in our room but the Moroccan guy ran around apologising and getting bulbs. I think the place just needs some simple diy tasks and bits fixed up. Anyway...our bed was ready with towels provided and breakfast included. But due to the nicer setting than the main hostel we thought maybe the room would be serviced even once. It wasn't and we called the number on the booking to ask for clean towels and toilet paper. A guy arrived in shouting blue murder for us ringing the boss and if we wanted something we come to him. Rather rude but eventually we got towels. It ws an unwitting mistake as we had ni idea we were getting anyone in trouble. To save any further upset we bought our own toilet roll but new ones were outside our door everyday after. We were there for five nights and on the afternoon of night 5 we asked for clean towels again. The same cheeky guy called the boss then gave us a lecture for wanting clean towels again, saying 3 clean towels in 6 days was too much because the boss has to pay for them being washed. I'm sorry but I think 3 towels over 6 days is about normal and we paid enough for the washing of them. Nothing else was cleaned in our room during our stay but this didn't bother us that much. All in all. ..location was great with a vaporetto stop right at our door. Lovely view of the canal, cute and tasty eating places close by at reasonable prices. Main attractions in walking distance if you like a good wander. Good breakfast in the apartment. Really friendly Moroccan guy. Not so friendly other guy. Service could be better to those paying for private double ensuite. double bed had two single sheets under us and over us so we got a bit tangled. Overall we enjoyed it regardless and felt like we had our own little place albeit with housemates so I would say don't rule this one out.
I have stayed for 5 nights in L'Imbarcadero. Excellent value for money, great location, very friendly staff. I'd book with them again without thinking twice.
