This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Asakusa Smile is a great place to stay in Tokio. It is cheap (regarding Japanese prices), nice and people working there are really friendly and helpfull. Furthermore, you can find here a very lively atmosphere where to meet not just travellers but locals too. I will definetly stay here next time!

Asakusa Smile is a hostel located at a quite nice location with easy access to all points of interest. The room was rather small though, with only a little space to spare with our backpacks inside. But considering the cheap price, I guess that was to be expected.

The airconditioner could have been better though, it barely lowered the temperature in the room at all.

Otherwise an ok hostel, for the price.

stayed in a 4-bedroom girls dorm at asakusa smile bekkan (other building). i like it that it was close to a supermarket where you could buy groceries and other items. the kitchen was clean and very nice. the room was small but manageable. the closets couldnt be used to store luggage so you'd have to take up floor room. and it can get pretty squeezy that way. lucky for me, the others in this hostel were pretty quiet and respectful during sleep hours. i had my proper rest every night, which was most important. i heard that in the main building, the facilities are much older. so i'd recommend bekkan over the main building.

Great location just a short walk from the most important subway lines. The rooms and bathrooms were spotless, however the six bed dorms are crampt when full, but for the price and location it is amazing.

Some people have written about bed bugs but I didn't see or hear anything from anyone when I was there. Had some of the best sleeps of my trip.

My only complaint might be that the bar was smokey, but thats just japan.

Fantastic spot and totally happy.

Kitchen could do with a refurb. Limited common areas. Small mixed 4 bed dorm. Excellent location in Asakusa and very near an excellent supermarket. Very friendly staff.

On the plus side I think the staff does do a good job and this was cheap. I had to weigh this against what was one big negative for me. I am now turned off from hostels mainly because of the noise I experienced here (this was the first hostel I ever stayed in). This place is mostly geared toward a younger crowd (at 35, I was the oldest person there). I'm not sure I'd go so far as to call it a party hostel, but it was loud enough at night to keep me up. My room was above the bar and though it didn't stay open past midnight, there would be people hanging out down there until 4AM talking loudly or playing video games and/or music (with the door locked so you could hear them but couldn't join them). That led to a lack of sleep for me and after one final sleepless night, I ended my stay there a couple days early and went to a hotel.

Some of the staff didn't speak very strong English, which made life a little bit difficult (I was really glad to have my phrasebook), but that's travel. The biggest thing was that the place really smelled. Like trash on the dorm floor I stayed on, and like cigarette smoke in the lounge. Not the place for a non-smoker to stay, definitely. But if you don't mind your clothes smelling like cigs, the room was cramped but clean, and the showers and toilets were decent enough.
