After spending time in the hustle bustle of Tokyo, Takayama was a God send. The town is almost like a quiet western USA place with a backdrop of mountains, fresh air and no crowds.
Takayama Park City Hotel was no doubt the most freindly hotel I stayed in Japan. The owners were genuine and helpful with whom I had many conversations about local history, culture and events.
Japanese breakfast was great and very filling, the hotelier explained each dish and how to eat them.

Takayama Park City Hotel is a small British-style hotel on the small hill, which provides 12 rooms.
We are proud of the best view and location which can look out over the graceful flow. Our open highly dining room commands an excellent view.
Best located to take a walk in Takayama city, and 3 minutes walk to 'Old private houses'
Equipped with no deluxe facilities at all, but we have a established reputation as a hotel with experienced staff, and courteous consideration and hospitality.
Inside our elegant British-style hotel, there is calm and relaxed space with both Japanese gentleness and Western modernity which makes you feel like in an ancient city.
Each room is fully equipped with air conditioning and heating, a TV, a phone, and has a variety of interior design.
Basic amenities: yukata (light cotton kimonos), toothbrushes, towels, bath towel, razors, shower caps
Facilities
Large bathrooms: All natural marble bathrooms. Spacious. For men and women separately. Available for 24 hours.
The bath comes by the private use in an artificial hot spring.

An excellent and great value place to stay. The position is perfect and the hosts actually join you for a sake in the evening. A very personal touch. The rooms are relatively large, very clean and the shered bath is made private with a sign. Very pleasant.
The staff were very friendly and the facilities were clean and well maintained. We dined in the hotel restaurant and the meal was fabulous. The famous Hida beef was exceptional.
The large Japanese bath downstairs was a nice indulgent way to get the day started. Although there is a steep incline to get to this hotel, I would reccomend it as a great place to stay. My family and I enjoyed it very much.
We had an amazing stay here. The bedrooms were large although they had western beds, and we preferred tatami mats. The common japanese bath was outstanding and a real treat. The Japanese lady who ran the hotel was delightful,very sweet, friendly and helpful. On offer was a great breakfast, and good value. Very clean, relaxed and quiet.
